This pair of ivory carvings of ladies and lotus was completed in the mid 19th century. They depict aristocratic ladies holding stylized bouquets of reeds and lotus. Description:

An archaic bone Xi was from Warring States periods.
By enduring old patina, the ancient decorative piece was still in sound quality when old carving lines were revealed clearly.
It was also used as an instrument to loose the knotting rope.
An original hole was in the middle for fastening.

This extremely rare Neolithic Chinese bone comb was dug out in present day Province of Shaanxi, Southern region, close to Yellow River (Xi'an , Banpo settlements). It is 4" wide by 2 1/8" high. It has been cleaned and is in perfect condition. Purchased from a world-famous collection. One would be hard-pressed to find a finer example.

This antique toggle was sourced from China. I suspect that was originally from Tibet. The carved circular markings on bottom of 2 of the sides of the toggle are more typical of the ethnic minorities.

Toggle is almost 2 inches long and .5 inches x .5 inches.

The pair of mid 19th century carved ivory emperor and empress are 14”~15” high, 3”~3 ½” wide and 2 ½” thick. The emperor’s right hand holds a pagoda; his left hand carries a long sword. This is a very well carved early 20th century ivory fan. The front is carved as grapes and leaves; the back and ribs are plain. The loop which holds the fan ribs together also is made of ivory. It is 7 ¾ inches long and 13 ½ inches wide (open). The silk ribbon is a replacement. It is in great condition.

This very well carved ivory horse is an early 20th century product. It depicts the reclining horse with turquoise and coral on its saddle and blanket. It is 7” long, 2 ½” wide and 3 3/8” high. Aside from two hair line cracks on the bottom due to its age, it is in great condition.

This very well carved ivory statue of a scholar is a late 19th century product. It is 11" high (with hardwood carved base, it is 13" high), 3 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" thick. The image is the well-known Song Dynasty (960AD~1270AD) hermit scholar Lin Pu (林 逋). Li Pu (967AD~1028AD) was born in Hang Zhou City, Zhe Jiang. When he was young he traveled a lot. A fine cricket cage, composed of a body made from a gourd and a base, rim and lid made of ivory. The lid itself is nicely carved to represent a bird among flowers. China, 19th century. Length: 3 1/2" (9 cm). Very good condition.

This very well carved Chinese ivory bead and green glass necklace is a 19th century product. It is 38” long and contains 78 ivory beads and one large glass bead. Originally, carved ivory beads were part of court necklaces in Qing Dynasty. The ivory beads are ½” in diameter; the glass bead is ¾” in diameter. Aside from minor wear due to its age, it is in great condition.

This unusual carved ivory export cosmetic box is an early 19th century product. The hibiscus (or maybe peony) and its buds, leaves and branch were very carefully carved over the entire box. It is 3 ½” high and 4 ½” in diameter. It is in excellent condition.

This ivory carving of the goddess of mercy, Guan-Yin, is an early 20th century product. It depicts Guan-Yin holding a pearl in one hand and a vase in the other. There is a tiny sitting Buddha in her hair. It is 9” high (with fitted hard wood base it is 10” high), 2 ½” wide and 1 1/8” thick. The carving is superb and it is in excellent condition.

This well carved ivory maiden is an early 20th century product. It is 8 ¼” high (with wood base it is 9 ½” high), 2 ¼” wide and 1 ¼” thick. It depicts a young lady holding a crane (or egret) in front of her. Aside from an age crack on the front and a tiny piece missing from her hair piece, it is in great condition.

From our Chinese Monochrome Collection, a large carved ivory elephant bridge, late 19th century, depicting a procession of eight individual elephants of graduating size, nicely carved from a single tusk. The elephants are well-rendered and the ivory has a good buttery patina somewhat better than the photos reflect.

Interestingly, the artist's decision to carve eight elephants here is no accident: Those familiar with Chinese mythologies and cultural superstitions will immediately recognize...

Description: An ivory brushrest was in a fine look.
Depicting the mountain view and a monk-like figure which were in characteristic simple form of early Qing periods, the ivory piece was well rendered by affluent carving skills.
The enduring old and warm patina was preserved on the surface when darken adhesives were kept in the crevices due to age.
It was kept in a perfect condition and was fitted with a later made wood stand.

This late 19th or early 20th century ivory carved Shou Xin (or Shou Lao, the symbol of longevity) is 12” high, 3” wide and 2 ½” thick. It depicts Shou Xin holding a peach in one hand and dragon head cane in the other. It is in excellent condition.

This pair of carved ivory emperor and empress are early 20th century export pieces. The emperor is 14 ¼” high with base (without base, it is 12 5/8” high), 2 ½” wide and 2” thick. Late 19th century Chinese fan shaped ivory carving with stand. One side depicts a well known battle scene from “ A Tale of the Three Kingdoms”; the other side presents an etched picture of two dragons. It is in excellent condition. It is 4 5/8 inches high (7 ¼ inches with stand), 10 ¾ inches wide and half of an inch thick.

This early 20th century large export carved ivory goddess of mercy (GuanYin) is 18” high (with carved wood stand it is 20 ½” high), 4” wide and 3” thick (measured from the base). Her right hand holds a branch of willow leaves; her left hand carries a basket filled with lotus blossoms. A phoenix is standing on her side and a tiny sitting Buddha with a fire halo is in her dark, braided hair. There is an honorable Qian Long mark carved on the bottom. It is in excellent condition.

One hand is holding prayer beads, the other is holding a lotus. The workmanship and the quality of the ivory are superb. Besides a few small hairline cracks, it is in excellent condition.

This late 19th century Chinese carved ivory doctor¡¯s lady is 4 inches long, 1 inch wide and 1 inch thick. Her right hand is leaning on her head and her left hand is resting on her chest. There is a dark line (the center of the tusk) running the length of her side. Her whole body has slightly yellowed due to the age of the piece. She is in excellent condition.
