Instead of shoes, sandals such as these were worn in villages throughout India. Hand carved from indigenous woods, frequently teak and fitted to the individual wearer. The knob on the toe prevented the sandals from falling off and no other attachment was used.

Antique bronze Ganesha riding a bull. The Ganesha is wonderfully animated as it holds the four attributes. Obtained in the 1960s from Katmandu. It measures 1.75" wide .5" deep at base 3.75" tall, 20th century.
Very rare and early piece, nicely cast, finely engraved and with a good patina. The Krishna figure has two silver bracelets on each arm. H. 24 cm. Condition: left index finger restored.
