Japanese Meiji period well rendered Kutani porcelain figure of Kannon, decorated in polychrome enamel and gilt highlight. She sits holding a scroll in her left hand and her face is well modeled with a serene, downcast expression. A gold jeweled necklace hangs from her neck and she wears a white hooded robe permeated with tiny white raised moriage dots and decorated with green dragon roundels. Flat unglazed base. 10 1/2” high. These dishes have an underglaze blue design of treasure ships (wishes for good fortune). The reverse of each is painted with a stylized wave design encircling the foot and a double gourd mark with two characters is painted on the bases. Acquired in the 1960s from an American collection. There are minor nicks to the glaze on the rims, otherwise good condition – no cracks or repairs.

19th century Edo period (before 1867) Japanese porcelain Hirado plate with scalloped edge and underglaze blue decoration of a dragon in pursuit of a tama (Sacred Gem). Excellent potting, milky white body and clear glaze. Great early painting with charming freedom, wonderful dynamic design - see the flames issuing from the body of the dragon. Some surface wear as to be expected, overall in great condition. Diameter 7 1/4 inches.

Each dish is painted with a similar design in colored overglaze enamels with a phoenix bird in flight over a paulownia spray and leafy garlands in the background. Each dish is molded in the shape of a chrysanthemum flower, and set on a low foot. The footring is unglazed, exposing the fine white porcelain body. A “fuku” mark in underglaze blue is painted on the base of each, and an iron-red cash symbol is drawn on the exterior wall...

An octagonal beaker and saucer plate, thinly potted and decorated in under glaze blue with "lange Lijzen" and flower pots in Kangxi style. Late Edo, c 1850. Marks: Zoshuntei, Sampo sei (cf. mark 96 in Lawrence, Hirado: Prince of porcelains). Height of beaker "2¾/ 7 cm and diameter "3½/ 9 cm. Diameter of saucer "5¼/ 13,5 cm. Condition: fine.

A splendid and refined Satsuma rectangular incense censer. Each painted panel is minutely painted with traditional motifs with images of a phoenix and Shi Shi Lion in raised detail. A Fine Large Japanese Imari Bowl, Meiji, 19th Century.

A fine and substantial Arita Imari rinka bowl. Six panels, inside and out, are alternatively decorated with ho-o birds and flowers.

The centre of the bowl depicts the shochikubai, the three friends of winter. A suggestion of breaking waves can also be observed to the left of the screens.
