These hibashi are for use in the summer time (winter ones have top half covered in wood). Finely made of bronze with high copper contents, beautiful casting and chiseling of the fungus, embossed areas at the working end for better handling of charcoals. Oribe is a visual style named after the late-16th-century tea master Furuta Oribe (1544-1615). Typically, black or green glazes are applied to the bodies of these works and light-colored windows are created using feldspar. These high-contrast areas then act as a canvas upon which abstract, minimalistic, and often naturalistic themes are painted.

A small cast iron Japanese tetsubin of slightly flared cylindrical form, decorated in relief to one side with maple leaves floating on a stream against a textured ground. The backside is plain save for the textured ground and the foundry mark for Kinshudo. The cover is flat with a pine cone finial and the handle can be moved to either side. In excellent condition, it measures 2.5 inches high excluding the handle, diameter about 3" at widest. Dates late 19th Century.

A very lovely small Japanese teapot accented with decorative running splashes of gold against a dark brown almost black backdrop. The same color can be seen on the bottom 1/5 of the teapot just under the handle and continues to include the base bottom. The copper remaining exposed copper has a deep copper patina that comes only with age and usage. The handle features intricate basketry weaving. A heavy Japanese iron, 19th Century, teakettle in the form of lotus leaves, with a small crab clinging to the pot. The tetsubin, with handle, measures about 7 3/4" high x 6 1/2" in diameter, and weights 58 ounces. The bronze lid is signed "Ryubundo". The condition is excellent/perfect, and it can still be used. This kettle's exterior has a beautiful dark brown patina. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

19th century Japanese ceramic wall vase for use during tea ceremony as a flower container. Bizen ware made in Okayama Prefecture - one of the 6 oldest kiln centers in Japan. Wonderful free potting, beautifully indented by potter’s thumb on the front, subtle glaze ranging in color from gray to olive to brown. Very interesting antique Aka Raku Bajyohai Tea Bowl, made with a rare long foot. Bowls like this are called 馬上杯, Bajyohai: Rider's Cup. Its form makes them convenient for the ancient horse-riders to drink tea from.

Distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and its brim. It dates back to the early Edo Period (1603-1868).

It is covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside. A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with two fish nets hung for drying.

Japanese Meiji period cast iron tetsubin in lotus form with a Chinese inscription dating 1702 on one petal. The inscription reads “Kangxi forty-second year, 9th month, 6th day, auspicious day made.” Lotus form lid. Measures about 8 1/4” in length by 4 3/4” high (8” including handle). 19th century. Very good overall condition. The handle can stand upright, but it does not balance easily. There is rust to the interior. From a Scottsdale, Arizona collection.
