Done with nice copper material, the stem bowl was decorated with Buddhist eight auspicious emblems on the outer surface from deliberately rendered chasing and carving techniques. Because the Japanese used a minimum of furniture and usually sat on the floor, frequently an arm rest, kyosoku, was used either singly or in pairs. This simple wooden Meiji period arm rest would have been appreciated for both its form and finish. The wood was first burned with hot coals and then scrapped with the result that the softer sections of wood would be carved out more deeply. Both sides of on this antique printing woodblock are hand carved with 3 pages of text on each side. The text is a poem about the moon. With the upper sections of each page in Chinese characters and the lower text in Mongolian, this is a rare and interesting artifact of the Qing Dynasty reign.

The woodblock is covered in ink from repeated use but the text is still crisp and clear. Measures 9 inches x 14 inches.

This unusual pair of Chinese dolls were made with wire bodies covered with fabric padding and then silk clothing. Their heads, lower arms and feet are made from some kind of composition material and then painted. Because of their wire construction, their arms, legs, and bodies etc can be carefully repositioned. The feet are wired together to provide a more stable base...it is a theory which frankly does not always work well.

Description; A rare Yaozhou plate was uniquely glazed and formed a star-like pattern. In a special glazing form, the ware was molded as an oval shallow basin. When the foot ring was shaped with steep wall, the bowl's surface was dipped in the white pigment first then was slipped with black glaze. It was then formed the star-like motif in the cavetto. Description: A decent lotus-bud bowl from Jun kiln was in beautiful look. In a tint of the famous sky-blue glaze, the elegant bowl was shaped at the foot ring with regular wall. Developed with darkened colour which was caused by kiln firing, the unglazed foot ring was preserved with obvious burial earth. Light incursions of pinhead holes were found on the surface near the bottom. In the cavetto, the glaze was in milky-white blue when some residues were left for authentication...

This is a set of traditional lacquer bowls from Thailand. There is a single gold mythical animal, balu-gwin, at the bottom of the inside and a three balu-gwin spaced around the outside. The gold rim with key design surrounds the rim of each of the 5 bowls.

In wonderful condition, each bowl is approx 5 inches wide at the rim and 2.5 inches high.

Description: A lovely Jun tea bowl was molded in an elm bowl’s shape. With a slightly inverted rim, the bowl stands by its small circular foot ring which was unglazed. In an attractive purple splash at the cavetto, the bowl was applied on the surface with the blue sky glaze. Cracks and minute bubbles were spread under the glaze. Some deposits were left at the center of the foot ring. Date: Jin Dynasty(11th-12th Century), Width: 9.8cm.

A rare 19th or early 20th century Malayan kris with an attractive pamir/pamor steel blade. The hilt has a (probably replacement) metal collar and a finely carved Garuda head in "kingfisher" form. The wood scabbard is decorated with engraved Straits Chinese style white metal bands depicting Buddhist emblems. There are old losses to the 'flared' top of the scabbard and the left 'ear' of the Garuda head is missing. Unusually there is no damage to the 'nose'. The old blade is in very good condition...

In a plain form without any decoration, the Lohan head piece was expressed with a serene atmosphere that the traditional Buddhist sculptures would own. ...

This large powder horn would have been used by a Yi ethnic minority hunter in the hills of China's Sichuan Province. It was carved and shaped from 2 pieces of wood joined together. The surface was then decorated with traditional patterns using lacquer paint. The attached rings provided an attachment for a shoulder strap (missing) and the access hole has a bamboo stopper.
