Apparently caused by firing effects, the surface of the glaze was transformed to a mysterious image that was charming and different.

Rare Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Censer

This stoneware censer was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) or possibly the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). It is quite "heavily-potted" with both inner and outer surfaces coated in a crackled transparent olive-green glaze reminiscent of yue ware, apart from the sturdy foot that remains unglazed. To the inside centre there is kiln grit embedded within the glaze. On opposing sides at the shoulder are two small loop handles.

Description: A wood manuscript cover was wonderfully carved by traditional craftsmanship.
By a unique design of rectangular panel in the center, the Shakyamuni Buddha seated on an Indian Pala-style throne with lion base and in earth-witness gesture.
Around the central panel are a pearl border and a border of lotus petals next to it.
Reserved with ancient brownish patina, the wood panel still kept the original aroma of the burning worship oil.
