Japanese cast iron sake kettle (choshi) with the characteristic flattened spout decorated in low relief on one side with prunus blossoms and on the other side with bamboo. The wooden lid is covered with stippled lacquer. These iron kettles were used to heat sake during the cold winter months. Flower form finial. Meiji period (19th century). A rare, large and beautifully carved scholar's item made of huanghuali and carved with flower vases and a censer as the center piece, with the original hardware.The outer frame could be huanghuali or huali. A bronze water basin was inscribed with poems and carved with beautiful scenery on the surface.
The inscriber was Pu Ton, A sibling of the last emperor of Qing Dynasty Pu Yi.
Pu Ton was also a famous scholar of late Qing to early Republic periods.
This bronze piece was cast in thin wall but was kept in very good condition with darken patina on the surface.

A rare wooden Buddha in a seated position on a lotus pedestal. The face is serenely contemplative and the robe is carved to show the gathered folds. Wooden Buddhas from this period are very difficult to find. This Buddha has a natural, calming presence.
