Large Chinese Warring States Impressed Pottery Jar (475 - 221 BC)

This large and attractive pottery jar was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a relatively high-fired dense grey pottery. The whole of the surface of the upper body has been decorated by impressing cord into the soft clay and then incising horizontal bands as the jar was turned; a simple yet very effective method of decoration.

Description:

A Cizhou Cut-Glaze stem censer was found in a rare form and was preserved in perfect condition.
The glaze on the surface was in subdued gloss when slight abrasions were found on the rims.
At the bottom, in the hole of the stem foot, the rough-feel body clay was revealed with grayish tint when manually maneuvered scraping scars were found obviously.

It was a very rare piece in unique form and in such good condition...

This is a finely potted Song dynasty (960 – 1276AD) Yaozhou Persimmon hexafoil glazed cup. It has a gently rounded sides rising from a straight foot to an everted hexafoil rim, covered overall in a lustrous with a scattered iridescent persimmon glaze. The lustrous persimmon glaze, with its thick glaze flow stopping just short of the foot to reveal a white clay body. Overall, it is a very beautiful piece.
