A Japanese kanzashi (hair ornament) - two pronged brass pin decorated with impressed stylized waves and flower heads, applied with natural coral and silver cherry blossom, 6 5/8 inches.

Measuring 7 1/2" from beak to tail and 5 1/4" high to top of crest, this bronze is in excellent condition, with all the origonal paint. The detail in both the casting and paint is very fine, and the figure is life size and life like. It is signed on the belly and tail with Bergmann's "B" in an urn, with the Austria stamp, and KF in a diamond lozenge. The back of the RANMA is also carved and has a rectangular placard with the inscription: TOKYO SHINTOMI-CHO, CHOUKOKU NIN, TAISHO SAN NEN NI GATSU, GOTO SUKEYOSHI, which translated means, Shintomi Town of Tokyo, presently the Ginza area of Tokyo, February of the 3rd year of Taisho (1915), carved by Goto, Sukeyoshi.
