Chinese 17th Century Dehua / Blanc de Chine Porcelain Lion-Mask Censer

This censer was made in the 17th century (c. 1650 - 1700) at the famous Dehua kilns in Fujian province. It is "heavily-potted", the outer surface and inner mouth coated in an ivory-coloured glaze. The inner surface and base remain unglazed.

Diameter 15 cm. There are a couple of firing fissures to the thickly-cut foot, no doubt caused during firing due to the thickness of the clay...

Vietnamese 16th Century Green Glazed Bowl

This rare bowl was made during the 16th century. Apart from the unglazed stacking ring and base it is coated in an apple-green glaze, the depth of colour of which varies according to its thickness. There are small areas around the inner wall where the glaze has not covered but this appears to be unintentional.

Description: A beautiful stem bowl was cast by a fine repousse work. Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. A very well executed Ming stone weight depicting a strange youth guiding a mythical beast.The stone itself is unusual in that is very hard and veined with two colors. Tempestuous waves in fine gold lines splash between lightning shapes decorated with reed curtains on the sides of this singular lacquered wooden koro with woven silver lid dating from the Momoyama to opening of the Edo period, Later 16th to early 17th century.
