The name of Kyotos Sueharu is synonymous with seihakuji celadon. He has been displayed numerous times at the prestigious Nitten, Nihon Togei Ten (National Japanese Ceramic Exhibition) and Nihon Gendai Kogei Ten (National Japanese Modern Crafts Exhibition) among others. He is held in the Yale University Museum among others. A fantastic sculptured vase by the outlandish Fujioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaire. A frenzied stack of rugged corners like the fallen away sides of a mountain revealing the earth’s structure beneath a layer of green. It is likely Fujiokasan is inspired by the brawny, rain drenched and forested mountains surrounding the town of Iga, where the Mountains formed a natural line of defense for the secret clans of Ninja who called the valley their home.

Dawn breaks over snow laden boulders, the shadows waxing lavender on this spectacular incense burner by Kaneta Masanao enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hagi Kurinuki Koro. This style of digging the work out of the clay rather than forming the clay on a wheel has been a signature of this artists work for more than two decades. The white glazing has altered to soft lavender in the firing process, creating a feeling of opulence over the organic vessel.

Miyashita Zenji (1939-2012) was born into the family of potter Miyashita Zenju, and graduated the Kyoto Municipal University of Art. Starting with the most difficult, he worked from Celadon, which relies on shape and extreme control of firing. A beautiful hand painted vase with a bamboo motif and a wagasa umbrella by Ikeda Shogo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Tanegashima Kohiki Henko. A thinly applied white slip covers the body and patches of fawn colored spots dot the surface. Bursting with life from the bottom, a bamboo spreads its leaves revealing a bright jewel under the rain.
