Elegant Hagi chawan with white to faint lavender ash glaze over slip and daido clay body. Classic turned foot, kodai with cut notch and impressed seal.

Though marked, I have been unable to read the seal and identify the potter. What I can say is this chawan is definitely post-war, circa 1960 -1970 and very much resembles the works of Sakakura Shinbei XII and Saka Koraizaemon XII from that time period.

This bowl measures 5" X 3.25" and is in great condition. No Box.

Rich and elegant kannyu, crackled layer, seiji celadon by Furukawa Toshio. This chawan, very much in the style of Shimizu Uichi has a beautiful seiji glaze over a perfectly thrown iron clay body.

Furukawa Toshio (b. 1949) is well known for his celadon and copper red pottery and he has been widely exhibited and illustrated both in and outside of Japan.

Exceedingly well fired Shigaraki mizusashi resembling two ash covered stacked stones. This ash and charcoal covered mizusashi is an enigma. The signature is illegible but the piece is obviously a work of one of the most talented Shigaraki potters of the post-war period. Possibly Furutani Michio, Ueda Naokata or Juho, Sugimoto Sadamitsu or at least someone of that caliber. I will leave the sleuth work to the next owner.This piece is positively medieval in appearance...

Serene yuteki temmoku conical chawan made in the Chinese taste, though Japanese. The chocolaty oil spots float on the darker iron glaze as if suspended, or frozen in motion. The clay is a a fine buff stoneware and the kodai, foot is well tooled. The chawan is signed, but has not been read, though it is a fine bowl. This vase is boxed and comes with it's stamped cloth and measures 9.75" X 4.75". It is in excellent original condition with a slight firing crack inside the neck, which does not go through the piece and is glazed over.
