A very interesting Beecher type black cloth doll with flirty eyes. Before you get really excited about a rare Beecher doll, I think that someone did this later on. Usually there is a piece of shell or white cardboard on either side of the shoe button eye and this is embroidered with white floss on the right sides of her eyes. It could be original but I kind of think not. Anyway, the eyes are old, not newly done by the looks of them and it is very enticing. It makes her very cute...
This doll had the nicest look of a serene country woman. She has a long graceful neck, a slim but curvy hips and small waist. She is all original even though there is a old cloth wrap around her neck probably to stabilize her neck and it work really well. She has jointed shoulders, hips and knees. Her feet are long and nicely shaped and her ankles are thin and very nice. Her hands never did anymore than be rounded off but now one has come undone and the other is a little frayed...
This wonderful topsy turvey is in almost original condition. I don't think she was played with or handled that much but is definitely old and right. Both faces are done by the same hand. The are very nicely done in a very direct manner by an unskilled hand that really was good. The white doll has a bonnet and a blouse and a soft pink cotton skirt. This wonderful black cloth doll woman stands 24" tall, has layers of antique clothes that I feel could really be original. She is made with black cotton and her face is black sateen that is embroidered with tiny stitches. She is stuffed with cotton but not firmly so she has a soft comfy feel especially with all the layers of clothing. The softness suits her. She is 24" tall and is circa 1880-90. She is just lovely.

This doll doesn't need any detective work to know that she is old and completely original. I think she has two other faces under this one but I would never take the risk of hating the other two faces and not being able to get this face back on. I often don't like to take socks off a doll. When you know by the looks that the socks have been on forever they never look the same when you take them off and put them back on.

A man and woman black cloth dolls with composition heads. They were not made by the same person but they were sold to me as a pair and they are great together. She is 24" and very heavy. He is 27 " and is tall and lean with cool clothes. I think they are both from the 1930's. Both have early and probably have original outfits also the sun fading on the woman skirt looks like she had a different apron. They are in very good condition. A terrific pair of black dolls.

She is firmly packed with rags and cotton, how can I tell, she is very heavy and doesn't give much when you squeeze her. Rags are dense and heavy, cotton is lighter and can be pushed more easily into small places like arm and legs and feet and gives more when compressed. This is a very nicely made black stockinette doll with a sculpture face, applied nose and ears and embroidered eyes and mouth. She has applied hair made from a fine net fabric and sewn in place. She had really nice clothes with a blue dress, and colorful striped petticoat a lace slip and lace pantaloons. On her head she is wearing a black net bonnet. Her body is straw and cotton filled.
