I am partial to sister dolls and have been collecting them for years. I have always liked these two. I had dressed them, it is very hard to find two dresses alike as you can imagine and they rarely have their matching dresses 120 years later. No question the same person made both dolls. They are very firmly stuffed with cotton, jointed arms and legs, embroidered faces with that straight neutral red mouth and an embroidered nose done with black floss so it is hard to see...

A 19th C. bisque head cloth body doll that is a squeak toy. I have never had one before. The squeak of course does not work, how many times do you suppose it squeaked before it stopped and the child was devastated the mother was thrilled. She has her original dress and then early blue calico apron and bonnet. Her face is bisque and she has blue glass eyes that are almost startling. Here are two very nice paper doll dresses made with crepe paper and Dresden paper lace trim from the 1840's The 7" dress is exquisite with watercolor hand painted floral decoration. This dress has a partial unbleached paper backing that is all original. It has a slightly irregular hemline and a dark spot just above the hemline.
The smaller dress is 3 1/2" and has Dresden stars across the bodice. It has a paper back that is two fold to go over the paper dolls head...

At first glance she looks like one to me but a southern belle all dressed up in the 1880's would not ever consider putting forth anything resembling a scowl. To give her the benefit of the doubt it is more of a pensive look. Her bright blue eyes would sparkle with a smile but she is what she is. Her face is watercolor and ink and nicely done. Antique all rag stuffed stockinette black doll with a face that says she will tell no secrets. She has on what I believe to be her original clothes, a brown and tan check dress with red trim and a bandana apron over it. She has a firmly packed body with attached arms and continuous legs that do bend for sitting a lot over the years. It is a bit of a forced sit. She has a curved body in at the waist and would at the hips and chest. She has black sock and red boot shoes that have been sewn on and I think are original. 2,5" x 2,5" ( 7 x 7 cm ) cotton hanky and the other about 2,5" ( 7 cm ) diameter.
Both preserved in his hanky box with litho picture decoration . Box are 3" x 2" ( 8 x 5 cm )

A very nice antique black cloth doll with a wonderful embroidered face. She has knotted wool hair pulled through heavy foundation fabric. Her head is round and very hard, her chest is very firm also. Her hips are wide but cotton stuffed as well as her legs. This old antique rag doll has the simplest drawn face. Two round dots for eyes with one line eyebrows a U shaped nose and a little round mouth with the tiniest 1/4" line in the middle. It shows the meaning of pursed lips. This doll is made with muslin and stuffed with sort of lumpy cotton. She has been used and abused and has lived to tell, or not. She has on a blue calico dress and a white apron that perks her up. She is 19" tall and is circa 1890.She needs a good home so she can rest.

Not only is she happy, she also is a good cook. She is almost as wide as she is tall, has original clothes, great yarn hair, (see picture), embroidered face that is very well done. She is cotton stuffed, sits well and she is nice to hold. She is 18" tall and is circa 1910-20
Here are two very small Civil War dresses measuring just 20". They are all hand sewn, the fabric is wool and silk I think, and as fine and thin as tissue paper. It is amazing that even though the have been worn and have a couple little mends, they look almost new. The fabric is strong with no shredding or signs of wear. They look wonderful hanging. C. 1860's.
