This is a fascinating drawing, in that it appears to be a photograph, such as a rotogravure print........but, it is not. It is guaranteed unconditionally to be an original watercolor, ink and gouache drawing of an old portal, possibly the entry to a church. The door seems to have been a favorite motif for generations of German and traveling artists.....a favorite "motif" just like the iconic red fishing shack in Rockport, Massachusetts, or the Brulatour Courtyard in New Orleans...

Henri Laurens, Paris, 1885-1954.These 4 pieces are Cubiste Head ink on paper signed LR. They are 22.8cm by 18.5cm (9" by 7.3". The son of a workman, Laurens trained at an early age in a decoration studio, where he modeled period-style ornaments and drew architectural designs. Afterwards Henri Laurens worked on building sites and scaffolding, where he learnt the hands-on side of hewing stone...

A nice watercolor portrait of a young man, probably in his mid-teens, signed, “Elinor M. Barnard/1933.” The young man with brown hair and eyes wearing an open necked white shirt leans into the picture plane with a sense of youthful eagerness. Elinor Barnard (1872-1942) was born and studied in the UK, but worked mostly in the USA, principally New York City. She has a relaxed and economical style. Sight size 16 3/8 by 12 ¼ inches. Overall with frame, 23 ¾ by 19 3/8 inches...

A beautiful drawing of the year 1878, featuring a number of women and a solitary man, most apparently gossiping at a picnic or other outdoor social meeting in a wooded setting, the place given as "Lake George". The famous upstate lake features in many an American painting of the period, and it was frequented by many notable artists of the time. Given the skill shown in our drawing, the artist was likely one of these notables, perhaps even one of the Hudson River greats...

A naive ink drawing, possibly by a child, charmingly titled "EXCHANGES", featuring a mounted cowboy on right firing at an Indian with chief's headdress, firing an arrow at the cowboy while crouching behind a protective rock. A cactus at far left and steer skull at right complete the composition. Probably dates to the early to mid 20th century. It is a simple image, but states a message in a rather straightforward manner. Size is 8" by 12" in simple wood framing.

More than 10 detailed, fine pen and ink drawings, on one sheet measuring 19 3/4" by 16", most featuring male figures, signed at upper left center "Al Wiles". Wiles was active in the Seattle area at mid century. The style of the drawing takes from Jose Luis Cuevas, a little bit of Surrealism in spots from Salvador Dali, and Eugene Berman. A beautifully executed, sensitive set of five study drawings on one sheet of paper, 8 7/8" by 9" (15 3/4" by 14 1/2" in gold metal frame), the work featuring a lonely-looking donkey, titled at lower left "Alistair", dated Sept. 1984 and signed there by the late Scottish woman artist MARYSIA DONALDSON (died 2018). Donaldson captured beautifully her noble subject, who reminds of lonely Eeyore, in his pasture, in the Christopher Robin/Winnie The Pooh stories...
