Pastel drawing of a path among trees at day's end, 9 1/2" by 5 3/4" (13" by 9" framed), signed at lower right by artist E. W. Rost, or possibly E. Vyrost (Vyrost is a Czech surname). The work has a Tonalist or Barbizon feeling. There is an American artist Rost but with different initials, and that artist created mostly etchings. Condition of the drawing is excellent, though the frame has considerable wear, especially at bottom and left.

The photo on the left shows a double portrait by John Singer Sargent of Mr. John White Field and his wife. This painting was done in the early 1880's and is in the collection of Pennyslvania Academy of Fine Arts. The image on the right shows an earlier portrait of Mr. Field by Sargent. Notice Mr. Field is blind in his left eye, which is enlarged and his right eye is focused which is a good eye. It is my opinion that Mr. Field rejected the first portrait of himself done by Sargent...

Famous for his paintings of Fort Garry (Winnipeg, Manitoba), this 12-1/4" x 9-1/4" artwork is in a period (repainted) gold 17-1/2" x 14-1/2" frame. It is signed on the lower left, and it is in very good condition with a small scratch below the grouping of rocks, some dirt (a cleaning is warranted), and some losses and damage to the frame...

A mourning portrait miniature by Elizabeth (Eliza) Goodridge. The work, painted in watercolor on natural wafer, is a depiction of a young boy's head issuing from a cloud beneath. Presented in a period, and probably original, case with a glazed, but empty, aperture on the reverse.

The condition is excellent, with no flaws, as is that of the case. The overall size is 2 1/2" by 2 1/16".
