Max Kassler, American 1905–1992 was an abstract Artist known for some of the most unusual experimental work based on the human figure He was an early student of the Picasso school of painting. This work culminated his idea of abstraction in space. This is part of the collection we have at the gallery. Automatic drawing was pioneered by the English artist Austin Osman Spare who wrote a chapter, Automatic Drawing as a Means to Art, in his book, The Book of Pleasure (1913)...

Small oil on canvas laid on board painting of a street scene in Paris, the work somewhat resembling the familiar paintings of A. de Vity. It measures 15" by 11" framed and is not signed. Paintings of Paris streets are ever-popular. A ballpoint pen date on the reverse backing paper (3/24/72) gives some insight into when this painting was created. See other Parisian views in my shop.

This is a relatively earlier (1976 or before) work of the noted Bermudian artist ALFRED BIRDSEY (1912-1996). Birdsey was a familiar figure in Bermuda for decades, a prolific artist, the works of whom traveled with tourists when they returned from holidays. This would account for the wide distribution of his distinctive work. Today his daughter continues the family tradition, with similar looking paintings being sold to visitors. Birdsey worked in gouache or possibly oil or acrylic on paper...

Impressionist American landscape painting, late 20th century, 24" by 36", unframed, signed at lower right with what appears as "A. Ullman" or similar. The piece is by a competent artist who knew how to use color and work the paint. A Standard Brands 39 cent sticker for the canvas/stretcher remains affixed, giving some idea as to the age of the piece, perhaps 1960's or 1970's.

ORIGINAL work, not a print as is commonly seen, 19" by 24" as framed, signed at lower right in white by the noted Croatian or Yugoslavian naive folk painter JOVAN OBICAN (1918-1986). This is a typical painting by the artist, featuring three traditionally dressed male figures, each holding a bird of some kind...

Found in Maine, is this oil on canvas painting, 24" by 20 1/2" in its silver metal frame, signed at extreme lower right "Judith Nelson Harper" and titled on the reverse "Red, White and Blue". It is a striking work, though I see minimal information on the artist---I believe just one minor bit of information shows up on a net search. Regardless, this will please anyone looking to brighten up a modern interior with original art from the 1970's...

An excellent example of the watercolor work by the noted New Orleans artist NESTOR FRUGE (1916-2011), 14 1/2" by 10 3/4" (20 1/2" by 16 3/4" framed), featuring the famous and often-painted Brulatour Courtyard in New Orleans. Fruge painted mostly watercolors and was a familiar and beloved part of the Jackson Square tourist scene in New Orleans for decades. He painted mainly French Quarter scenes but also on occasion works such as bayou swamp landscape...

Hey, very unusual in modern royal portrait of Abraham Lincoln done circa 1970 from a student of Cornell University. The work on canvas measures 20 x 16” unsigned.

Oil on canvasboard, 12" by 16" (17" by 21" as framed), signed at lower right by artist CURT PAULSON. I do not see a listing but the artist had a skilled hand. The style reminds a bit of California desert painters William Darling or Fred Chisnall. There is impasto, vigorous brush stroke, and a grayish blue light over the scene. Apparently original whitish antiqued frame completes this ready for the wall package. Condition is excellent.

A large watercolor on paper on panel painting of a classical mountain landscape, dated in Chinese 1980 at upper left (and likely signed there, I cannot read calligraphy), the work measuring 32" by 22 1/2" (the entire panel 40 1/2" by 30 1/2" with metal frame, loose/no glass). The artist was obviously familiar with centuries of Chinese classical landscapes. There is light wear in several places but nothing serious. The work is loose within the frame and can be shipped with or without it.

A beautifully executed original watercolor painting of Sacre Coeur church and surrounding street in Montmartre district of Paris, titled at lower right "Paris Place St. Pierre" and signed at lower left by artist "G. Meraut". There does not seem to be information on this artist but the talent is obvious. Certainly he or she was familiar with Maurice Utrillo and his famous renderings of this special part of Paris...

This is an OIL PAINTING by ZANDOR. Two Ballerinas apppear getting ready to perform. Approx. 2.5' X 3.5' this PAINTING was originally purchased from a BAL HARBOR, Fla. gallery in the early '70's. Label and additonal info appear on the back. Signed LR: Zandor in script. Two BEAUTIES and tastefully done.

Original oil painting on canvas by famed British marine painter Rodney J. K. Charman (born 1944). This work depicts one of the Nantucket Island lighthouses. It is signed l.l. and dated 1980. In excellent original condition. With a new Italian frame.

Thinned oil or possibly water-based casein/tempera on small board painting, 7 1/4" by 5 1/4" framed, signed at lower right by noted American artist Carol Jablonsky (1939-1992). The image is of a young female child, I believe of Native American or Mexican heritage. Jablonsky died at a young age but left behind a large body of work, including prints and original paintings...

A hand painted vintage copy of perhaps HENRI MATISSE's most famous painting, "The Dessert: Harmony in Red", one of his Fauvist masterpieces dating to 1908. That large work about 71" by 87", hangs in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. You on the other hand can own this faithful copy, painted very sensitively by a talented unknown hand, most likely in the 1960's or 1970's. The piece, on canvasboard, measures a more wieldy 18" by 24"...
