Acrylic on canvas contemporary painting of palms, depicted in yellow, pinkish-red and greenish-blue against an electric blue background, 18" by 24", unframed, signed at lower right by the artist, Shannon Casey. This is a nicely decorative, breezy work that will surely add a touch of the tropics to your interior. There are a very few minor spots of soiling or abrasion that hardly detract from the overall effect.

An oil on canvas painting of white flowers in a glass vase on a table top, two small porcelain vessels nearby, the work signed at lower right by artist Minerva Smithers. On the stretcher in pencil is written "Matilija Poppy" and then the artist again wrote her name in longhand. A google search shows a Minerva Smithers born in 1877 in Wisconsin, the woman's residence given in the 1940 census as Hawthorne, in Southern California (very near where this was found)...

Circa 1940 watercolor landscape painting, 11 1/4" by 15 1/4", 19" by 22 1/2" framed (no glass), signed at lower left by artist Edith Ovaitt. Edith appears to have been a talented amateur artist. An internet search reveals a woman by that name born in 1893 or 1898, living in Flint, Michigan at the time of the 1930 census. That Edith Ovaitt died in 1969. Ovaitt is apparently a fairly common name in that area. The watercolor's blue dominating color is very soothing and the work is clean...

An oil on rough side of the Masonite painting of a windmill in a landscape with a foreground cow, painted in a skilled impressionist hand, and signed by the artist, one PENNY SMITH, at lower left. The work was probably painted in the 1950's, judging from the signature and style/materials. I do not see a listing for a Penny Smith, but she was trained. Measurements are 14" by 12" and the work is unframed...

Pastel drawing, unframed, 13 1/4" by 10" inside the mat, signed at lower right "Moran", the subject a small boat in a harbor, a headland in the distance crowned by a classic lighthouse. Primary colors are the colors of sunset...reds, oranges, yellow, brown..........the painting was purchased in the San Francisco Bay area but I have no idea as to the origin or identity of the artist. It is a work that shows the artist was skilled with pastel.

Watercolor on paper of a rugged seacoast with rocks and surf (presumably California, but could be a number of other places including England), 10" by 13" inside the flimsy makeshift mat (18" by 22 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "GAY", and bearing a bonus---a pretty study on the reverse side. I do not believe this to be by any of the noted artists who share that last name of "Gay". Nevertheless it is a nicely drawn work, in excellent condition. Allow for reflections...

This is an unframed watercolor painting on heavy watercolor paper, the sheet 15 1/2" by 22, the subject an mansard-roofed old 19th century house in a winter landscape, signed at lower left by a Los Angeles area artist of note, Ann Murdoch (nee Sanguinetti). Murdoch is not strictly "listed" but, a living artist in her 70's, now residing in the Los Angeles area, she has a long history in fine art, stretching back to the Village Art Show in New York, the New Hope area of Pennsylvania, and Chicago...

Colorful, interesting watercolor with a modernist, almost Expressionist feeling, unsigned, 16" by 12" (23" by 17" in present frame). There is a label on the backing from the Fenway Art Center in Boston, which was run by two listed artists, Richard and Giragos Der Garabedian, leading me to believe that this could have been work by one of them, even though the style/subject does not fit with their known works...

Watercolor painting of autumnal tree in a landscape, 21" by 14", unframed, signed at lower left Virginia Dicken and on reverse is written "Autumn Gold". I do not see information on an artist by that name but she was obviously familiar with watercolor technique, including wet-on-wet technique visible at upper right. Presently the work is taped at edges to a mat (can and should be removed). Condition is excellent; just frame it.

Oil on canvas, 16" by 20", unframed, the subject the holy Wailing Wall of Jerusalem in Israel, said to be the most holy site for Jews. This is a painting by "Jan F.", and it's dated 1993. It's a work of a self-taught (and likely suburban California) painter named Jan Friedman, I was able to determine by comparing it to other works with which it was found, the other ones bearing her full name...

A small tight little contemporary acrylic or oil on canvas painting for that small wall, 7 7/8" by 7 7/8", unframed, with reverse dedication "For Shell Sam and Mina", and signed there on stretcher by artist Warren Boothby. Condition is excellent. Found in the Pacific Northwest; the style resembles that of the influential, famed artist associated with that area, Mark Tobey.

Oil on masonite panel painting of the desert, 12" by 9", signed in capital letters at lower left by listed southwestern artist BILL SHADDIX (1931-). The presence of the iconic saguaro cactus places the scene as east of the Colorado River, therefore in Arizona. Shaddix was born in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, and emigrated to California by the early 1940's with his family. A deputy sheriff in Orange County by 1956, he began to paint, and eventually turned full time to his fine art...

In the tradition of Victorian rose paintings of the late 19th and early 20th century, here is an unframed work, canvas laid on board, 11 1/2" by 21 1/2", signed at lower right "IDMAY". The painting likely dates to the early years of the 20th century, a time when young girls were encouraged to take up the "ladylike" skill of flower painting. "IDMAY" might have been Ida Mae----one of these young ladies. Our artist was of average skill, but her handiwork has outlived her...

A contemporary oil on canvasboard painting, 16" by 20", 19 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed, the subject an intimate little harbor no doubt in coastal Maine, with a lobsterman's shack and traps stacked on the deck, and his trap-identifying floats hanging on the side of the structure. The talented amateur artist "Paula" signed at lower right and dated the work '98. The work has accumulated a little light soiling and two small abraded areas, as shown.

Bousfield is a recognized artist who studied at the Australian Watercolor Institute and Royal Art Society of New South Wales. He studied with Will Ashton...

Kunkle and dated '79. Definitely an original gouache drawing, not a serigraph or reproduction of any kind...

Highly detailed gouache on silk painting, 7 1/2" by 16 1/4" (11 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed), unsigned, featuring approximately 75 to 80 figures participating in some kind of ceremonial procession. The work, circa 1960's or 1970's, is framed with bamboo style frame. There is a water stain at lower left in the mat area, which is actually composed of a thin wood veneer. There is also some foxing in the field at left portion, a scattered small stain here and there, and thin hairline vertical creas...

This is well painted by a skilled but unidentified artist. Found in Los Angeles. Condition is excellent.
