A camel, a donkey and several small figures complete the picturesque scene, which is signed at lower left by listed artist DAVID VASSILIOU. Vassiliou's biography is not extensive but he was evidently a prolific painter at mid century, most works featuring Egypt, Greece and the Mediterranean region...

French late 19th century oil on canvas still life of flowers in various vessels on a tabletop, signed at upper right corner "J. Billou" (the "J" could be a "G" or "T"). Oddly I do not see a listing that would correspond with this name, but this is clearly a talented artist. The work measures 19 1/2" by 24" (22 1/2" by 27" framed). The colors and handling remind of some Renoir still life paintings. This was found "as-is" in northern New Jersey...

A PAIR of watercolor paintings of classic scenes of Montmartre, each 8 3/8" by 10 3/8" (and each 15" by 17 1/2" as identically framed), each signed at lower left by French artist AMEDEE PREVOST. One work features the white Sacre Coeur church dome in the distance, figures and an artist completing the scene, the other work featuring a street easel artist painting a picturesque old house...

Watercolor and ink drawing of the iconic world-class sight, the Parthenon atop the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The work is signed in red in Greek at lower right and there is an inscription in Greek handwriting on the reverse. Measurements inside the deep blue mat are 10 1/2" by 7 3/4" (16 1/2" by 13" in simple undistinguished strip frame). The artist has captured with considerable skill a sight that will never be forgotten by anyone who has seen it.

A large watercolor painting in impressive strongly horizontal format, the subject waves rolling in on a coast, sailing boats on the horizon, the work signed at lower left by artist "Langdon". This could be Chauncey Langdon (1828-1907), described on AskArt as a topographical painter from Vermont who came around the Horn to California in the Gold Rush days...

A contemporary painting featuring the streets of Paris' famous Montmartre, the dome of white Sacre Coeur cathedral towering over narrow streets filled with pedestrians. The work measures 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" (12 3/4" by 10 1/2" as framed in black). The work is signed at lower right "Georges" and on reverse is written "Georges---Paris---2010/Montmartre". Condition of painting is excellent but lower left corner of frame shows some damage and there is scuffing elsewhere. Paint it black or reframe.

Contemporary little drawing of what I believe is Pirates Alley in New Orleans' Vieux Carre, 5 1/4" by 3 1/2" inside the mats, 10" by 8 1/4" as framed (no glass, but perfect condition). The signature at bottom appears to be "FERRELL" in capital letters. This is likely a piece produced for the tourist trade, or it's by a talented visitor who wanted to capture this famous scene on paper.

Original antique English watercolor titled "Fox Gloves by Stream" signed by Joseph Poole Addey (1852-1922), dated 1889. Addey was an especially gifted watercolorist. Born in Dublin, he studied at the Royal Dublin Society School of Design and the Cork School of Art. He began exhibiting at the RHA in 1877, and over the next forty years showed over 130 paintings. A most unusual modern painting----oil and sand on canvas, 48" by 32" including the frame, which, painted on all edges, can be considered an integral part of the work. The subject is most impressively complex---abstract yet suggestive of perhaps a central fish, or primitive ethnographic art imagery....all in a controlled palette of gray, muted rust red, white, black, and a touch of yellow...

A pleasing watercolor painting of a small sail boat on a lake, trees beyond, painted in an impressionist hand. Unfortunately the talented artist did not sign the work, which is laid down on a card. Framing circa mid 1960's included the old fashioned detail-dulling non-glare glass which should be discarded. The work measures 14" by 10" inside the mat and 19 1/2" by 14 1/2" framed...

Oil on board landscape, unsigned, the subject a panorama of red rock cliffs and distant butte, likely in Arizona, or possibly Utah, the scene framed by tree at right. The work has some age, a guess would place this circa 1955 to about 1965. Certainly it is good enough to have been painted by a listed artist. The condition is acceptably good...

Detailed antique watercolor drawing of a country villa in a park-like setting, an elegant horse-drawn carriage approaching from left, 6" by 9 3/8" (11 1/4" by 14 1/2" in modern day frame), signed at lower right "Herter" and dated there 1838. The villa seems to have Italian or other Mediterranean architectural characteristics, so perhaps we are in Italy, and the artist is a traveler from Germany. This is all speculation as I cannot locate an appropriate artist of this name...

A scarce oil on canvas PAINTING (not the usual prints seen), signed at lower left by the noted French 20th century impressionist painter CHARLES BLONDIN (1913-1991). Blondin was active in Paris in the post war years, painting and creating very popular editions of prints which he numbered and hand signed, and oil paintings as well. This work measures 8 3/4" by 10 1/2" (14 1/2" by 16" in appropriate mid century frame). Condition is excellent. Probably dates to late 1950's or early 1960's...

Haitian art is rightly popular for its color and exotic subject matter. This little painting, 9 1/4" by 7 1/4', set into a larger quality frame/mat, 22" by 19 3/4", depicts a thatched roof hut, figures carrying items on their heads, and lush tropical mountains and vegetation. The artist signed his name "Serge Louis" and the date 1995. The painting is exceptionally clean and ready to hang on the wall.

Watercolor painting of the famous 17th century church of Santa Prisca in Taxco, Mexico, signed at lower right "Carrillo" and dated there 1966. The decorative piece measures 20" by 16" in clean gold frame with blue mat. It is in excellent condition considering that the drawing was made nearly fifty years ago. Taxco then as now was a tourist center, conveniently near Mexico City. The church is renowned for its Baroque period Churrigueresque interior...

Large size (39" by 27 1/2" framed) pastel of hollyhocks in bloom, apparently unsigned, drawn on canvas. The work probably dates to the first third of the 20th century, when the flower was more popular and more commonly planted around houses. Most pastels are on paper, so a work on canvas is more unusual. Due to the size and the glass, a local Southern California buyer would be very welcomed. Except for a small bit of contact with the glass, the drawing is in fine condition.

The work, which measures 24" by 18", also bears a label on the reverse with the artist's name and address in Springfield, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia...

The circa 1960 oil is by an artist who certainly must have been familiar with the palette knife California desert scenes, with rich impasto, of John Hilton (1904-1983). The style and feeling is similar. The painting could benefit from a cleaning, after fifty years. A gold frame ...
