An interesting Mid-Century abstract on paper, 12" by 16" inside the mat, 18 3/4" by 23" framed, unsigned. The work could well date to the 1960's, the paper thin and slightly browned. I am not clear on the type of paint used; it is not simple watercolor. Could be a mix of some sort; the gold is metallic and the darkest portions have a gloss when viewed at an angle. Found in Phoenix, Arizona, this is a striking and unusual modern work by a talented but so far unidentified hand, 20" by 24" plus narrow simple wood frame, signed at lower right and dated there 1981. The scene is buildings, depicted in a semi-abstract, even cubist manner, all in various earth tones such as cream, tan, brown, and yellow. A pale blue sky and foreground makes for a cooling, interesting contrast. The Christian cross towering over it all adds a mysterious element...

This painting measures 26"x 22". Helen LaFrance is a self-taught, modern, contemporary artist who is 99 years of age. Her earliest known painting is a 12’x20’ mural inside of a local church that was made circa the late 40's and early 50’s and she continued to paint into the early 2000's. Oil or acrylic on canvasboard abstract painting, larger sized, at 28" by 40" as framed, signed at lower left "KAYE". The art takes after any number of modern painters' work, but the arrows imagery at the bottom portion, suggests to me a bit of Uruguayan painter Joaquin Torres Garcia. The creator of this work (and two others by the same artist I have listed) was probably a talented amateur with an excellent sense of color and a knowledge of modern art. Condition is good...

Original oil on canvas by Joan Thorne (American, born 1943) offered in excellent original condition. This painting is signed, dated (1989), and titled "Ucello" on the verso. It also bears a gallery label with the name of the artist, the title, the medium, and the size of the painting (11" by 14", 12 1/2" by 15 1/2" in its original frame). Joan Thorne is an important contemporary New York-based American artist who describes her art as "metaphysical abstraction"...

A striking, Mid Century, seventies oil on canvas abstract painting executed in a denim-like blue, the unusual and complex almost three dimensional-appearing pattern arising out of that base, 30" by 40", unframed, signed lower right "Karl McIntosh". McIntosh (1940-2009) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and passed away in Ogden, Utah, after a long career in fine art. An oil on canvas painting, unsigned, the subject the Arizona desert (we know that because of the saguaro cacti that are not found elsewhere), 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 38" framed). The painting is deliberately painted in a very pale fuzzy blonde light, with pastel tones, making it somewhat difficult to photograph due to the lack of strong contrasts. The materials suggest a circa 1950's or late 1940's date of execution.

Unlike most commonly seen works by this artist, which are actually serigraph prints, this is an original oil on canvas painting, measuring 34" by 18" (unframed). The scene, which could be described as a floral fantasy, incorporating at least two human heads floating within the composition, is rather typical of the work of the artist, HERMANN DIETRICH (1916-2003).
