NOT A PRINT---Circa 1970 watercolor painting of Notre Dame and the Seine River in central Paris, titled at bottom margin in pencil "Paris--La Seine au Pont Saint Michel", signed at lower left by listed French artist Pierre Eugene Cambier (1914-2000). The work measures 9" by 12 1/2" (16" by 20" framed). Cambier first exhibited at the Salon des Independants in 1948 and in the second half of the century was a noted watercolorist in Paris. Circa 1940 watercolor landscape painting, 11 1/4" by 15 1/4", 19" by 22 1/2" framed (no glass), signed at lower left by artist Edith Ovaitt. Edith appears to have been a talented amateur artist. An internet search reveals a woman by that name born in 1893 or 1898, living in Flint, Michigan at the time of the 1930 census. That Edith Ovaitt died in 1969. Ovaitt is apparently a fairly common name in that area. The watercolor's blue dominating color is very soothing and the work is clean...

Pastel drawing, unframed, 13 1/4" by 10" inside the mat, signed at lower right "Moran", the subject a small boat in a harbor, a headland in the distance crowned by a classic lighthouse. Primary colors are the colors of sunset...reds, oranges, yellow, brown..........the painting was purchased in the San Francisco Bay area but I have no idea as to the origin or identity of the artist. It is a work that shows the artist was skilled with pastel.

Contemporary little drawing of what I believe is Pirates Alley in New Orleans' Vieux Carre, 5 1/4" by 3 1/2" inside the mats, 10" by 8 1/4" as framed (no glass, but perfect condition). The signature at bottom appears to be "FERRELL" in capital letters. This is likely a piece produced for the tourist trade, or it's by a talented visitor who wanted to capture this famous scene on paper.

A collage work in mixed media, by the Los Angeles-area artist IRWIN BROWN (1928-2020), the subject a religious Jew in traditional clothing, holding a Jewish newspaper with prominent Hebrew characters. The work is an impressive mix of techniques----the base image is actually a dot print; but over that, the artist has used acrylic paint, gauze, ink, and heavy gloss varnish to create an original and unique work. Measurements as framed 15" by 15"...

Old horizontal format landscape, oil on board, featuring trees, a creek or lake, the only sign of man a picket fence near the group of trees at center, signed at lower left "Ferguson". The painting likely dates to about 1925 or 1930. Measurements are 14 1/2" by 25" (19" by 32 1/2" in frame that dates to about 1965). There is stable authentically old "alligatoring" of the paint (a crackling pattern related to how quickly the paint dried)...

An oil on rough side of the Masonite painting of a windmill in a landscape with a foreground cow, painted in a skilled impressionist hand, and signed by the artist, one PENNY SMITH, at lower left. The work was probably painted in the 1950's, judging from the signature and style/materials. I do not see a listing for a Penny Smith, but she was trained. Measurements are 14" by 12" and the work is unframed...

Unsigned acrylic/oil portrait of a woman worker acquired from a Hong Kong auction. I am assuming this was painted while China and Russia were still friends so would date this pre 1960. Good example of Socialist Realism (girl meets tractor) kitsch, W: 35cm/13.8in and H: 45.cm/17.8in.

Large impressionist painting of violet mountains, pond and green meadow with white fence, 24" by 30" (31" by 37" framed), signed at lower left by artist HENRIETTA S. RUDDER, further titled "Mountains" on reverse where there is a label of the 1989 Artists Guild of the Norton Gallery Fifth Annual Exhibition (probably West Palm Beach, Florida), providing the artist's name, and the original price of $500. The painting is created primarily with palette knife, the paint richly and generously applied...

An interesting, folky, oil on canvas painting of a house with stone chimney set in a lush open valley, apparently set in Salinas Valley in California, signed by artist Sharon Moree Giambrocco Ebina, who wrote a long story on the back of the canvas. In that story she explains how the painting is inspired by the movie made from the John Steinbeck book "East of Eden". She also touches on the Japanese inspiration she feels, her signature incorporating the Japanese character for "valley"...

Oil on board, 14 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, unsigned, the subject an extensive hilly landscape with distant structures. I believe the scene is more than likely American. The painting could use a cleaning as there is discolored varnish, causing the colors to appear more brown and less blue/white in the sky. There is some soiling at top mostly and a small 1/8" or less pressure mark at center in the sky. Overall this painting makes for a pleasant and decorative landscape...

An original gouache on illustration board drawing of a native American dancer performing the "eagle dance" of the Southwest, measuring 8" by 6 1/2" (12 1/2" by 11" in wood frame), signed at lower right by artist H. Kunkle and dated '79. Definitely an original gouache drawing, not a serigraph or reproduction of any kind. See close-up images. I have not been able to locate information on an artist by this name. The work is loose in the frame, needs to be nailed in again...

This is a nicely executed watercolor featuring a red barn and small house apparently in autumn, signed at lower right and dated there 1973 by contemporary artist JOHN S. McFEDRIES. I do not see a listing for the artist but some other works by him can be viewed on the net (and I have a New Mexico watercolor by him in my shop). The painting measures 16" by 22 1/2" inside the mat and (25" by 31 1/2" framed). The painting is in excellent, fresh condition but there is no glass. The mat is tired and ...

Watercolor on paper painting of a red barn in a country landscape, a high western mountain in the left background, signed at lower left "Elizabeth Quiroga". The painting measures 12 1/4" by 15 1/4" in its present wood frame. The artist seems to have had a good command of the medium. Condition is excellent. There is a pencil sketch of a barn on the reverse side of the paper. Condition is excellent. Allow for reflections in a few images.

A 19thC framed watercolour picture of a child 1860-80. A circa late 1800's or circa 1900 antique painting on gray art board of a lake at sunset, a steep outcropping with ruins at left and a small boat completing the composition, unsigned, by an amateur hand, 13 1/2" by 8 3/4" as framed. The work is in an ornate turn of the century frame with a few missing chips that could be easily painted over in gold. What more is there to say---it is a classic little painting of its era, perfect for a small or narrow wall.

A detailed gouache painting of two female and one male figure in a green landscape with trees and flowers, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (13 1/2" by 11 1/2" in gold framing), painted in the centuries-old traditional style of the Indo-Persian School, but contemporary. The condition is excellent and this is a very decorative piece. The amount of work involved to create such a detailed image is stupendous---though the market undervalues the handiwork.
