A well-painted oil on canvas (laid on board), 19 1/4" by 25 1/4" in later silvery-gold frame, signed at lower left "Lillian Reynolds" and dated there 1953. The scene is the timeless, shifting sands of the California desert, likely in the Palm Springs region. There does not appear to be information on an artist by this name, but that does not mean that she was not talented. There are a few light surface scratches and light soiling naturally accumulated over sixty plus years...
Pastel on paper, 21 1/2" by 16" and narrow frame, signed at lower right by well listed WAYNE LA COM (1922-). La Com is known for his skilled watercolors in the 20th century California Scene style. See the askart listing on him and his work. Photos taken at angles to minimize reflections.
A finely worked original pastel of a Native American girl dancing in an interior defined by an arch, the work signed at lower left by artist CARLOS FREY (1938-). The piece is in remarkable condition, bearing framing label from Nebraska stating that it was framed to museum standards. Frey has a website outlining his long career in the arts. He works in many media, including photography, and sells originals and various types of reproductions of his works...
A French oil on canvas painting of a flirting couple, the male dressed as a pierrot clown, she in an elegant ornate dress, the work signed at lower left with what appears as "Jos. Bellet". The work could possibly be by JEAN PIERRE JOSEPH ALFRED BELLET DU POISAT (1823-1883), but further research may be required to confirm the artist. Measurements are 13" by 9 3/4" (20 1/2" by 16 3/4" in old gold frame)...

Oil on pine wood panel, 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" (11" by 13" in old frame), unsigned, the subject figures in a clearing surrounded by feathery trees, a tiny brush stroke also indicating the presence of a scampering dog accompanying the small party. A charming old antique work in the Hudson River tradition; disappointing not to have found a signature, but I would think the artist listed. The painting has normal old light soiling, and the frame has some edge chips missing in a few places...
Found in far northern Vermont in the course of an art buying trip some years ago, is this unframed 20" by 16" oil on canvas portrait of a man, apparently signed "Shoelman" at lower right and signed again and dated on the reverse (possibly, 1806, though, more likely, 1846, considering the style---the digit likely a "4"). I acquired the painting near Cambridge/Jeffersonville not far from the Canadian border...
A watercolor landscape of a barn and other outbuildings in a landscape, signed at lower right in pencil by well listed, Pennsylvania artist and illustrator RANULPH BYE (1916-2003). The watercolor measures 10 1/4" by 13 1/4" inside the present mat (16" by 19" in the present sky-blue metal frame). Bye was born in Princeton, New Jersey and received art training in Philadelphia and New York...
ORIGINAL work, not a print as is commonly seen, 11" by 17", 19" by 25 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right by the noted Croatian or Yugoslavian naive folk painter JOVAN OBICAN (1918-1986). This painting by the artist, features a number of traditionally dressed male and figures, engaging in a traditional Jewish wedding under a chuppah, the rabbi at right and musicians at left...
A vintage mid century oil on board or oil on canvasboard painting of a dirt track in the Arizona desert, the landscape filled with the classic saguaro cacti, and at right a yellow flowering tree, causing the painting to be titled "Lluvia de Oro Tree" ("Shower of Gold") on the backing paper, where the artist, LOUIS ELMORE SMITH, also dated it April 1961. He signed it on the lower right corner. Painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition...

Gouache, ink and pencil on thin board snow scene, probably in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, measuring 4 3/4" by 5 3/4" (12" by 13" as framed) signed at lower right by noted California artist FRANK WILLIAM CUPRIEN (1871-1948)...
Oil on masonite highly detailed still life painting of a cut melon, apples of various colors surrounding it on a table, a spilled salt shaker and knife completing the arrangement. The work, 16" by 20" (24" by 28" framed), likely dates to the 1970's and as such would be one of the earlier works by this artist. Katon was born in Michigan and received a B.A. from Ursuline College in Ohio...
French late 19th century oil on canvas still life of flowers in various vessels on a tabletop, signed at upper right corner "J. Billou" (the "J" could be a "G" or "T"). Oddly I do not see a listing that would correspond with this name, but this is clearly a talented artist. The work measures 19 1/2" by 24" (22 1/2" by 27" framed). The colors and handling remind of some Renoir still life paintings...
Oil on canvas spring country landscape complete with peasant goose herder, two houses by a pond or small lake and flowering trees at right, 24" by 36", unframed, signed at lower left by listed Hungarian artist JOSEPH DANDE (1911-1969). Dande seems to have painted in the style pioneered by better known artist Laszlo Neogrady. Neogrady painted very similar spring country landscapes, as well as his signature snow-laden mid winter trees----and Dande has also painted those winter landscapes. I see...
Oil on canvas painting of a man's smoking pipe and other objects on a tabletop, 13" by 15", 16 1/2" by 18 1/2" in mid 20th century gold frame, signed at upper right by artist Cora (Cara?) L. Sloper and dated there 1899. This is a competently painted work, but I am unable to locate an artist by this name despite an intensive internet search. The name appears to be common in the upper Midwest, but this painting was purchased in Massachusetts, near Cape Cod. Condition is very good for a work ove...
