Red River is an oil on canvas landscape measures 20 x 24“ Augustus Dunbier was born on a farm between Shelby and Osceola in Polk County, Nebraska and lived most of his life in Omaha, Nebraska where he became well-established as a portrait painter and private teacher. He was one of early Nebraska’s most successful and influential artists. His training was at Germany’s Dusseldorf Academy where he learned to paint in the “dark manner” of the old masters...

Colorful oil on canvas unframed painting (24" by 20") featuring lily pads on a woodland pond, signed at lower right by listed California artist JOHN MARTIN HISS (1891-1972). It likely dates to about the 1950's. Hiss was essentially a talented hobbyist artist; he is best known as a physician and orthopedic surgeon who devised remedial treatments for disorders of the feet. The work is in excellent vintage condition. I note an inconsequential hairline scratch at mid right.

Mid Century Sci Fi oil on canvas of a card dealer wearing a dealers visor and a green cardigan sweater said to be magazine cover from a 1950s sci fi publication. We bought this and another we are listing in the late 1990 in Los Angeles , the seller didn't remember the artist name but said the artist was an early Sci Fi artist . the painting is unsigned in good condition though could use a cleaning. Very well done one of my favorites. Size overall 25" by 19.5" sight 19.5" by 13.5"

He eventually moved to the United States becoming a member of the American Water Color Society, New York Water Club, American Artists Professional League, National Arts Club, Society of Graphic Arts and the Century Club. He eventually came to exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C...

Oil on board painting titled on reverse "MORNING FOG", with artist's Laguna Beach stamp nearby, 16" by 20" (22" by 26" framed), signed lower left and dated there 1954, the subject a coast with rocky promontories and foreground beach, by listed artist Edward L. Fernsten (1892-1980). Fernsten was born in Oakville, California in the Napa Valley. He was largely self-taught but did have some instruction time under Boardman Robinson and Robert Graham...

"Paris" Oil on canvas, 16" x 12" unframed, 19" x 15" framed Andre Gisson was born with the name Anders Gittleson, in Brooklyn, New York but lived in Westport, Connecticut for most of his life. He traveled extensively and studied throughout Europe and the Far East. Mr. Gittleson was a leading American realist painter. He graduated from the Pratt Institute and was a Captain in the Army during WWII...

I do not see an actual signature on the painting itself but have not removed the backing board to search the reverse side. The painting is in excellent original condition...

Written in pencil on the old backing is the name of the artist and the title: "La Rue du Moulin de Beune Paris". The circa 1950's work is in generally excellent condition. There is a very small less than 1/4" length disturbance in sky showing as a light spot...

This signature was difficult to decipher but a little research on the net established the identity of the artist. He was born in West Sumatra and learned from Japanese painters during the World War II occupation years. Subsequently he participated in the Indonesian Revolution...

Mid twentieth century oil on canvas painting of mallard ducks in flight, signed at lower left "De Marcillac", the measurements 21 1/2" by 43", a several inch wide whitewashed frame available with the painting. This is a beautifully painted work that will be surely appreciated by the sportsman or decoy collector. There is a small bit of work visible on the net by an illustrator going by this name, but I cannot tie the piece to that artist...

A vintage oil on canvas painting of a river canyon of the west or Southwest, circa 1950's, good-sized at 24" by 32" (32" by 40" in the likely original old charming frame), signed at lower right by artist Charles Crowder. I do not see a "listed" artist name that would correspond. The work much resembles that of California impressionist landscape artist James Merriam (1880-1951). Condition is excellent.

The scene is the timeless, shifting sands of the California desert, likely in the Palm Springs region. There does not appear to be information on an artist by this name, but that does not mean that she was not talented. There are a few light surface scratches and light soiling naturally accumulated over sixty plus years...
