John Austin Sands Monks, American, 1850-1917, "Herd Returning Home". This is an atmospheric original etching of a herd of sheep by American artist John Austin Sands Monks. Image size 11 x 16 1/2 inches, c. 1880s, shepherd's crook remarque in the lower right corner, pencil signed. A rich impression with beautiful plate tone and ample margins on Japan paper.

Linocut print, the sheet 10 1/4" by 14", unframed, numbered at lower left 70/100 and pencil signed at lower right and dated there 1971, the "HB" blind stamp nearby, by the important and still highly underrated Swiss-California modernist HANS GUSTAV BURKHARDT (1904-1994). The subject is somewhat uncertain; perhaps a look at a catalogue raisonne of the artist's graphic works would provide the title...

John Taylor Arms 1887-1953 American This is one of the finest works by John Taylor Arms etching and aquatint. It was created and printed in 1940 as image number 1 of his Scandinavian Series. Pencil signed twice, dedicated to William Schaldach, lower border. The image measures 7 9/16X13 9/16 inches. It appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 346. Thomas W. Nason 1889-1971 New England This is a fine original wood engraving by American artist Thomas Nason. The title of this work is: Spring in the Poconos, it was created and printed in 1938 in an edition of 100. Done for the Buck Hill Falls Art Association. The image measures 6 1/2X8 1/8 inches. Hand signed and dated in pencil in the lower border.

In 1968 Haku Maki completed his Animal Song series. It was 12 different prints, one for each year of the Chinese/Japanese zodiac. Each print had the title Animal Song and the kanji for the animal, which was not translated. This print, Animal Song [dragon], 14/50, is a beautiful Maki red. The dragon of the image is a very traditional Chinese character for dragon. In this print Maki used the theme dragon for the first time. This dashing abstract kanji seems to almost swirl out of the paper...

The title is "Daphne and Apollo", the imagery consisting of idealized male and female figures with leafy trees in the background, creating a most interesting and modern composition that looks almost like a "solarized" photo...

After the great world-renowned master MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985), this is the 1972 Galerie Maeght lithograph poster "Artist as Phoenix", issued in an edition of 5000. The print has fresh bright colors, although it is evenly rumpled from age (no creases, just not a flat surface). It can be shipped rolled in a tube (for lower cost shipping than indicated) or with green metal mid-century spring-clip style poster frame (the present shipping quote)...

Original 1956 Mourlot-printed lithograph poster after a 1936 charcoal drawing by the famed French 20th century artist HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954), printed for a mid 1950's exhibition at Galerie Berggruen at 70, Rue de L'Universite in Paris. The unframed poster measures 25 3/4" by 17 1/4". It is in good clean condition, the blue color not faded, though I note the presence some commonly encountered handling creases, the sharpest of them to the left of the nude's head and at the upper corners...

Pair of original antique botanical Fern lithographs prints circa 1867. Edward J. Lowe’s Ferns: British and Exotic. this print was published in London by Groombridge & Sons in 1867. This work was one of the earliest works to concentrate solely on the subject of the fern. Lowe used his botanical expertise and money to produce this work. He hired A. F. Lydon as the artist for the work and Benjamin Fawcett created the lithograph plates. Presented archival matted and framed...
