Large, bold ring set with fiery cabochon tiger’s eye. The sterling band and setting show a warm patina from age; there are signs of wear as well as tool marks from the handwork. A handmade studio piece with a rectangular top mounted with a lavender stone that tests as tanzanite or chalcedony. The work has a roughness to it, but the ring is sturdy and the stone is very secure. The ring is unmarked, but tests definitively as sterling silver. The top of the ring measures 1 1/8 inches long by 5/8 inch wide. It is a size 5 1/2.

Here is a collar-style necklace with a great modernist look by Ed Levin, who died in 2008. It is set with a cabochon amethyst, and made of a gilded metal. The result is a coppery finish; inside the collar is Levin’s name in script letters and ‘Bronze.’ The well-designed collar is quite comfortable and lies nicely at the base of the neck.
