Gorgeous silk panel with fine embroidery design, with embroidered band on outside, the scene depicting a rich image of flowers, fruit and an elaborate flying creature, appears to be a butterfly, all on salmon ground with vivid colors and fine peking knot details in the butterflies, late Qing era. Measures 13 1/4" x 15 1/2". The outer band is varying shades of blue on a black background, foliate designs with classical Asian geometric background...

Fine old wedding blanket from the Mulao ethnic group in Southern China. This has a classic floral, butterfly and phoenix weft embroidered pattern. Excellent condition with no damage- this is woven with all handspun cotton thread with some tiny bits of silk floss. The dyes are a combination of indigo and possibly aniline and organic mix in the red and orangeish colors. L: 100cm/39.5in and W: 72cm/28.2in - with border L:122cm/48in and W: 88cm/35in.

Fine and rare two paneled wedding blanket from the Bouyi (aka Buyi) ethnic group in Changshun area Guizou, China. Woven from all handspun cotton thread. The blue and white center field has a “wanzi” swastika meander pattern while the upper and lower parts are the repetitive “well” symbols. This dates circa 1960’s. Without border- L 130cm/51in and W: 72cm/28in, with border- L: 176cm/69in and W: 114cm/28in. A stunning piece- almost has a Mark Rothko feeling to it.

This was the traditional jacket used by girls of the Yi Chinese ethnic Minority. Girls wore this style until they were married. This garment is small and was most likely worn by a child between 7-10 years old. The shirt is 16 inches (40.6 cm) from shoulder to shoulder, 19.6 inches (50 cm) from shoulder to sleeve, 19 inches (48.2 cm) armpit to armpit, and 28 inches (71.1 cm) collar to bottom. The skirt is 36.2 inches (92 cm) long by 13.85 inches (35.2 cm) wide at the top. The total weight is 3.3 Lb.

Antique garment fragment, judging from button loops, the front of a coat, 21" by 14 1/2" framed, a dragon design at center. The fragment shows his age, with a stain at bottom and overall aging of the material. Probably late 19th or early 20th century. Material is likely silk.

A fragment of old Chinese micro stitch needlework, 18" by 9 3/4" (23 1/2" by 15" in attractive black frame and light green backing material), the imagery including classic temples, vegetation, insects, and even two tiny figures (and maybe portions of sampan-style boats). The silk stitch is very small and intricate, the colors bright, though I do note that the edges are frayed and at top stained. Proper framing could hide this.

Rare jacket back panel from the remote Miao Jiupang group from Jiahe County, Guizhou province (see last enlargement), with purple embroidered pattern between the spaces in the tin decoration. This style of decoration is unique to this group and very difficult to make, as every tiny bit of tin has to be individually cut and crimped. Recently acquired from a private Hong Kong collector, these are the first examples I have send of these I have seen in the past 15 years...

Fine and rare old Yao/Mien all hand spun and woven cotton wedding veil with silk thread embroidered geometrical design, circa 50 years old. This piece is from Kim Mien group and was originally collected in Northern Laos. The colors on this piece are subtle and restrained (please note the use of shades of brown and blue in enlargements) and the brown and white tassels. Beautiful women's vintage silk cheongsam (or qipao) dress with gold trim and satin borders. It has water droplet shaped fasteners with gold swirls within, mandarin collar, and slits on either side. The first style of qipao emerged in the Qing Dynasty when the Manchu social group called the Banners came to be. All Han Chinese under the banner were forced to dress in qipao instead of traditional Han dress. The original qipaos were baggy and loose to conceal a woman's body, however in 1920s Shangha...
