This large Hagi tebachi, handled dish is by Scandinavian transplant and Hagi native; Bertil Nils Persson. Located at the foot of an active volcano, the Ougaku kiln specializes in a type of pottery know as Sakurajima-yaki. This lovely white Hagi chawan rests firmly on a wari kodai or “split foot.” The crackled milky glaze varies in consistency across the curves and contours of the bowl with some areas tending towards a faint brown, adding an interesting dimension to the landscape.

Here is a brilliant Chawan by Master Mashiko Potter and Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box. It is in mint condition with no chips or cracks.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical, glossy black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

The window is decorated with three concentric squares and twigs in iron oxide glaze has then covered with a clear ash and feldspar glaze. This is a typical Momoyama design.

Elegant and rare Ouji celadon chawan by master potter, Ono Kotaro. The interior is carved with a wispy and lyrical floral decoration and the exterior has lotus blossom leaves surrounding the base, around the footring. The Ouji glaze is a very pretty but subtle yellow celadon in person.

This chawan measure 14 x 7cm and is in perfect condition with its original signed box.
