This tall and lovely Hagi chawan rests firmly on a wari kodai or “split foot” pedestal that is unglazed—displaying the coarse rich clay. The crackled milky glaze covers the curves and contours of the bowl, contrasting dramatically between the foot and the clay body. Hagi-ware such as this is part of a tradition stretching back over 400 years and is a high-fired stoneware type of pottery. Tall and fixed c-scroll handle with entwined and split foliate mount. Spread foot. Interlaced script monogram engraved on handle. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 16368A (first produced in 1905), order no. 4117, and director’s letter C (1902-7). Excellent condition.

Art Deco sterling silver picture frame with classic linear ornament. Made by JF Fradley & Co. in New York, ca 1920. Rectangular window in same surround with vertical plain and engine-turned through stripes. Bottom rail larger with lozenge mono plate (vacant) applied off center. With glass, silk lining, and velvet back and hinged easel support for portrait (vertical) display. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 2994T. Very good condition.

Pair of Art Deco Classical jade and gilt sterling silver candelabra. Made by Lebkuecher in Newark, ca 1920. Each: Cylindrical jade shaft on same octagonal base with carved petal flutes and fretwork. Curvilinear silver gilt arms with block volute terminals mounted to shaft with same; each terminates in single jade socket on silver gilt leaf-and-dart mount. Raised central socket same. Ornamented silver gilt mounts on shaft top and base. Rests on silver gilt foot with block volute supports.
