This is a beautiful Japanese cloisonne vase. Though not signed, the workmanship and colors clearly speaks Hayashi Kodenji made this. This same opinion is held by North America's leading cloisonne collector. The vase stands 7 1/4 inches tall. It appears perfect but there is a virtually invisible repair to the midnight blue enamel edge shown in the last image.

A square Chinese cloisonne enamel gau box with four arched apertures and gold gilt strap loops for personal carrying. Richly decorated on a yellow ground with designs of formal lotus and foliage, the top side panel has a dark blue fylfot. The back panel, with the large red Shou-type character, slides up to open. A very thinly potted small blue and white Ming dynasty saucer. It is so thinly potted that if held against the light, we can see through it. The centre of the saucer has a flower that looks like a lotus pod in a double circle. The porcelain is slightly grayish in colour. It has the Cheng Hua (1465-1487) six character mark and of the period.

There are minor firing faults with frittings and chips along the rim and base. No hair line crack. Generally in good condition.
