An unusually large "Ivory" coloured moulded Bakelite (Urea Formaldehyde) wall plaque designed by William McMillan RA. These plaques were manufactured by De la Rue Plastics and were presented by the War Office to local Savings Committees in appreciation of their success in "Salute the Soldier Week" in 1944. Some are still to be found in public buidigs throughout the U.K.. For a similar commemmorative wall plaque please view cat. no. EPH 4622 in the collection of the Imperial War Museum, London. Condition: exceptionally good - one small 1.5cm production flaw to the left of the rifle but not visible on the reverse. 58cm (22.8 inches) high; 35cm (13.75 inches) wide.

A large heavy bottle vase depicting two confronting five clawed dragons amongst clouds and flames and above breaking waves. The base carries the six character seal mark of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795)but possibly made later during the 19th Century. It arrived in the UK before 1910 and is from an old West Country estate. Condition - the neck has been reduced and polished. There are no chips or cracks and there has been no restoration but there are surface scratches. Height 23cm (9 inches); 24cm (9.5 inches) wide. Weight 2.6 kg (5.73lb).

AA carved soapstone figure depicting a reclining Scholar; holding a fan in his right hand. This item was possibly made as an object for the Scholar's table and was made in China in the Qing dynasty, probably during the second half of the 19th Century (circa 1850-1900). Condition: a 2.5cm area appear to have been chipped away (in front of the fan and below his right knee)- please view enlargements 5, 6 & 7; and there are small spots of red paint in places. 6.3cm (2.5 inches) high; 7.6cm (3 inches) long.

A 'bronze' censer (copper zinc alloy with iron impurities) with a six character Ming dynasty Xuande reign mark (1426-1435) to the base but this item was made later, probably during the late Qing dynasty (circa 1890-1910). condition: very good - no damages,losses or repairs. 9cm (3.5 inches)across; 6.3cm (2.5 inches)high. A commemorative plaque carved with oak from the barque (three masted sailing ship) the Mary Moore which operated as a tea clipper until the end of the 19th Century. The Mary Moore was built by Stephen & Sons (Glasgow) in 1868 and was registered in Maryport, Cumberland, North West England. In 1887 she was re-fitted and her hull was clad with metal. It was presumably at this time that the plaque was crafted. Condition: it has split in two, possibly in the 19th century and is held togethet with an old staple repairs. 33cm (13 inches) diameter.

A rare late Ming Dynasty thickly potted jar decorated in underglaze blue with a key-fret pattern around the neck; on the shoulder a Kraak style diaper pattern encloses four circular panels, each containing a fruiting peach branch; above the foot are stylized breaking waves; the large central area is painted on each side with nine boys, at leisure, in a garden setting. "Hundred Boys" jars with very similar decoration are to be found dating to the Jiajing reign (1522-1566) but this jar was made later, probably for export, circa 1610-1625 during the reign of either the Wanli or the Tianqi emperor.
Condition - there is fritting (production glaze loss) to the rim and there are chips to the foot rim; there are two cracks to the rim which are probably firing (production) cracks and there are various cracks and glaze imperfections to the body but there are no repairs and there has been no restoration.
19cm (7.5inches) high; 19cm (7.5inches) diameter. Weight - 1.5kg (3lb 5oz).

It is painted in 19th Century 'Romantic' style depicting a red sun framed with turquoise fruiting pomegranate branches and containing an intense, passionate poem or 'prayer'to the sun. A rare original pair of clear plastic cased Yellow coloured ankle boots with clear moulded plastic heels, each with an impressed Mary Quant 'Daisy' motif capable of creating a trail of daisy footprints in wet sand. This design was introduced in 1967 and is typical of the innovative use of new materials in the cutting edge British fashions of the 1960s. For a similar pair in this style please view the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) and also a pair in this colour in the collection of the Museum of London. We bought these boots in 1976 as part of a large clearance of 1960s clothing from an S&U Stores depot in Wednesbury (outside Birmingham). Condition: Unused, no damages or losses, but displaying some minor signs of aging such as the brown internal mark at the back of the right foot. Size: 5 (UK).
