Like a mirror of the soul, the ovoid forms of Living National Treasure Tokuda Yasokichi III flash with brilliance, vivid color explodes, while the darkness seems infinite, impenetrable and reflecting only the world around it.  Here is a fine example of his work, pale blue blends through green into soft yellow before plummeting into darkness. The body of the vessel has been brought up to a very narrow neck, just wide enough to receive one flower before flaring out at the top...

A beautiful assortment of colors and textures play across the dark red surface of this exquisite Chaire tea container by Fujiwara Ken enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Yohen Chaire and annotated by Sokuchusai (1901-1979) the 13th generations Omotesenke Headmasteres. One can easily see why a graet tea ceremony master would wish to associate his name with the work. This is one of the best pieces I have ever seen by this important artist...

As if dragged from the ocean floor, the calcified form of this star shaped shell glistens with foggy blue inside, capturing the heart of the sea from which it came.  It is dark and murky near the rim,the color of ocean plants.  A superlative bowl by Koike Shoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Luster-sai Kai-no-Wan.

A striking tea bowl showing precipitous dark mountains shadowed by drifts of white Hagi fog by Saka Koraizaemon XII enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hagi Chawan.  Rough textured clay and smooth white glazes combine for a tactile ménage.  The bowl conforms beautifully to the palm, and rests on a sturdy three part kodai.  It was the featured work on the invitation card of a Takashimaya Department Store exhibition and comes complete with a signed catalog from the show.

A rising star in the pottery world, Yamaguchi Makoto was born in Seto, Aichi prefecture in 1978. In 2000 he was apprenticed to Hiroshige Kato (Kasen Toen). In 2004 began exhibiting his wares and has held many solo exhibitions at Department Stores and top galleries throughout Japan.
