A modernist still life oil on linen featuring a golden tan rocking horse in the background, and a silver coffee service in the foreground, all against a brightly colored striped curtain or tapestry. The painting is in very good to excellent unframed condition, painted by the internationally renowned Polish American artist Stanislav Rembski (1896-1998). He was well known for portrait painting, some finer examples of which are housed in the Maryland State Art Collection...

In some ways the Albert Bierstadt of Europe, Frederick Kammeyer ( 1873 - 1941 ) painted grand lavish landscapes of Europe's beautiful mountain scenes. The oil on linen offered here renders a rapid stream coursing through a wooded valley against the backdrop of majestic imposing mountains in the background but never out of view. Signed lower right F Kammeyer Munchen. Painting is in excellent condition and framed. Dimensions: 36" x 28 1/4" framed; 31 1/4" x 23 3/4"

An early 20th century formal portrait of a lady painted by one of the leading portraitists of that century, Stanislav Rembski (1896-1998). A native of Poland, Rembski immigrated to the United States in the 1920s, working first in Brooklyn Heights, then Baltimore around 1940.

His paintings are in museum and private collections world wide, having been commissioned by Eleanor Roosevelt to paint a posthumous portrait of her husband, and of Woodrow Wilson...

German composer Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856) is the subject of this thoughtful treatment of one of the great music writers and critics of the Romance era.

The nearly all white sculpture depicts the musician in a pensive focused gaze, carved in simple but expressive lines. The economy of carving contrasts with many 19th century styles which were more extravagant in their renderings of their subjects.

The superbly modeled alligator head jaw moves on its hinged mouth when its lever is pushed. The head is emerging from from marshy grasses waiting to catch its prey. The alligator is mounted on ebonized oval support which is held by a gilt bronze rococo plinth.

Overall condition is very good to near excellent though the gilt patination shows minor losses or fading. The base is late 18th / early 19th C. though the alligator dates later in the century...

The panache, verve, and energy of this striking wood carving of a Spanish conquistador is remarkable for its dynamism and expressiveness. The man exudes a somewhat austere aristocratic brood, yet exudes the strengths of youth and ambition, a man ready to make his place in the world. We believe the work to be of the British school painted c. 1850 or earlier as suggested by the early Victorian shape of the seat rail...

It is quite appropriate that a French sculptor created this bronze of Cinderella, for after all it was a French author who gave us the modern version of the beloved fairy tale of the young woman who went from riches to rags to riches with the help of a fairy godmother.

She is seated somewhat forlornly holding a spindle of yarn, but it is the two objects behind her feet which give away the story...

This pastoral scene depicts sheep in a mountainous area, causing me to believe that it may be European in origin. The artist has captured 6 sheep peacefully grazing on grass, with no shepherd seen. The serenity is enhanced by the calming green of the grass and the blues of the sky and distant mountain. The linen on canvas is mounted on board, and framed under glass in what I believe is a refurbished frame which is generally in excellent condition...

This fine bronze of a young lady is an Art Nouveau gem by celebrated French sculptor Henri Godet (1863-1937) who exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais between 1886 - 1913. The young girl is modeled in fine fashion of the day, gazing to her left. Her hair and the flowers on her dress complement each other. Godet is well known for different treatments of women, often enveloped in flowers. The beautiful sculpture rests atop a rouge griotte waisted marble socle.
