Bamboo flower basket with a water container (otoshi) which is also made of bamboo. Otoshi has no water leaking and has nice color. Omi-e-kasuri (pictorial kasuri) with double kasuri pine and bamboo motif. It is handwoven of taima (hemp) and weft yarn with pine tree pattern is clamp-board dye so that the textile has white bar-code like lines in both selvedges. Both choma (ramie) and taima (hemp) textiles were woven from 12th century in Omi region in Shiga prefecture, but kasuri textiles were woven of taima (hemp). In excellent condition but the white lining has light stains and very light two spots in the upper back. Late 19...

Ojiya chijimi unlined kimono which was produced in Ojiya city area in Niigata prefecture. It has uneven surface like crepe, which is improved from Echigo-jofu, which has been woven of choma (ramie) since more than 1000 years ago in the region. The first half of the 20th century. Rice bag made of fragments of hand-spun cotton with stripes, checks and katazome (stencil-resist-dye), all vegetable indigo and brown dye. The cord is hemp. The square cloth in the bottom is fine and beautiful katazome with "two cranes facing" motif. Kome-bukuro was used when people dedicated rice to temples or shrines. In excellent condition except for a few holes and mending patches. The latter half of the 19th to early 20th century. W:57cm, H:28cm, Bottom:30cm x 28cm.

Long cloth with shibori which is worn by a woman when she worked in the fields to protect skin from sunburn or bug bites, which covers a head with only an opening for eyes. It was mainly used in the southern part of Tohoku district. It is made of cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo. The fronthead part has double cloth. In good condition but the white stitches have some ravels and a few small holes. The first half of the 20th century. 34.5cm x 170cm

Two Saga-men, Okame and Hyottoko which were sold in front of temples in Saga region in Kyoto since late Edo period (the first half of the 19th century). They were sold as charms against bad luck and evil but interrupted in early 20th century and revived in 1950s. Both are made in late 19th to early 20th century.
