This is a Los Castillo design made by Hilario Lopez who worked for several Tallers through his career(of which one was Margot de Taxco) and he was an accomplished Maestro. The construction is open backed repousse but it is framed in heavy silver making a respectable 80 grams heavy. There is lots of bead work executed on this design and it is in impeccable condition. We have an obsidian stone Mask brooch that exhibits an exceptional gold sheen. The brooch is 2 in. by 1.5in. Signed RB and with eagle 3. The carving has no chips, cracks or damage. The gold sheen obsidian is getting harder to obtain today and this is a beauty. The silver work on the head dress is exemplary. It was difficult to get a picture of the sheen with my camera. The lighter color is the reflection from light casting on the sheen.
