Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, here is an English brooch featuring a large peridot (1 cm x 6 mm or 3/8” x 2/8”), and, on either side, seed pearl-set gold shamrocks. Flanking those are 3 demantoids garnets per side, plus 1 above and 1 below the peridot. Peridots symbolize spring and youthfulness, and it is said to bring health and wealth. Here is a sweet little pendant or charm made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18kt rosy gold. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures 1/2” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. This elegant and beautiful band features a continuous wheat sheaf pattern (wheat signifies love and charity). It was made at the turn of the last century, according to jewelry historian Christie Romero (RIP). She told us it was probably made using a process called “die rolling.” It is marked “22ct”, “PLATINUM” (the platinum is under the gold, as you can see in the photos), and the maker’s mark is “B’s”. Here is a pretty plique a jour pin in the shape of a stylized moth, German or Austrian in origin. The body has 4 colorless paste stones, and there is an emerald green paste stone in the tail. Here is a striking ring with a trilliant or triangular cut synthetic alexandrite and 2 full-cut diamond accent stones. This beautiful Art Nouveau dragon doesn't hoard treasure--he is a treasure! The pin is 18 k gold (tested). The wings are edged in 7 rose-cut diamonds each and his tail is tipped with more rose-cut diamonds. He holds an Old English cut diamond in his beak. The pin is 1 3/8” X 1 ¼”. It has an early-style safety catch. The hinge is a replacement. There are no marks. Circa 1900.

Here is a great pair of cuff links by Belais, one of the companies who pioneered the use of white gold. Very collectible. Here is a lovely and sparkly Victorian brooch, in the form of a crescent moon on a knife-edged bar. At each end of the bar is a ruby, and in the middle is a cluster of 8 diamonds centered by a pearl. The moon is set with 21 round and cushion cut rubies, and 19 diamonds. The diamonds are set in silver, and the rubies in 14k rose gold. Here is a pair of simple and cheerful earrings, which can be worn with just about anything. The citrines are set in 14k gold and measure about 6mm or 1/8” in diameter. The earrings weigh 1.1g. They are stamped 14k, and have a stylized maker’s mark which could be “MP”; they are also stamped “CZ” for some reason. We have tested the stones and they are definitely citrines, not CZs. Here we have a very pretty Charles Horner enameled pendant. It has Horner’s maker’s mark, as well as hallmarks for Chester, 1909-10. The enamel is a lovely mix of green and blue in 3 panels, with a blister pearl mounted at the top and a freshwater pearl dangle. It measures 1-5/8†not including the bale, by 1†at the widest point. Here is a pair of lovely earrings with nice long dangles – the entire earring measures 1-3/4 long, and the dangle is 1-5/16”. They measure just under 1/2” at the widest point. The dangles have a charming bird and flower motif. They are black enamel and gold plate or gold filled. Damascene jewelry has been made since the Victorian era in Portugal and Spain, and earrings with lever-back findings like these came into production c. 1900. Here is a classic and simply gorgeous ring – when worn, the liveliness of the stones is riveting! A demantoid from the original mines in the Ural Mountains of Russia this big is very rare. This one is slightly oval, has the diagnostic horsetail inclusions, and is of an older cut.
