Vintage Japanese conch shell horn, known as a horagai or a jinkai depending on its usage. The horagai has been used in Buddhist practice for over one thousand years. Japanese print by sosaku-hanga artist Haku Maki (1924-2000), titled "Work 74-7". It shows the profile of a tree with many long, twisting branches in a beautiful navy blue color against a metallic silver background. The outlines of the tree are embossed, giving it more depth and contrast. Numbered 83/153 and signed in pencil, with Maki's red signature stamp in the corner. Framed. Japanese print titled "Then Zen" by artist Clifton Karhu (1927-2007) depicting the Laughing Buddha Bodai within an ensō, a Zen Buddhist symbol representing enlightenment as well as the simplicity and elegance of Japanese aesthetics. Bodai sits cross-legged and balances a red sake bowl on his head. The words "nip, sip, dip", "swish", and "then zen" are stylistically written outside of the ensō. Woodblock print by artist Ted Colyer, born 1947 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He graduated Fine Arts at Mt. Allison University and studied in Japan to perfect his woodblock techniques, where he remained for 17 years before returning to Canada. He became a professional artist in 1975 while residing in Japan. This woodblock, titled "Interior" dates from his first year as a professional artist and depicts a room with a central fire pit and tea kettle hanging above it...

Large Chinese jade (nephrite) ceremonial piece, in the style of the Liangzhu period (3400-2250 BC), with carvings of faces. This nephrite piece is solid and has a pointed tip, and dpierced hole through its very top. The carvings around its edges look like eyes and may be related to the taotie (roughly "gluttonous ogre mask") motif, which were essentially symmetrical zoomorphic faces with no lower jaw, thought by scholars to be linked to religious ceremony and the afterlife...

Etching by Japanese artist Mayumi Oda (1941-present) titled "Merlin", depicting a stretching black cat amidst a bed of flowers. Mayumi is known as the 'Matisse of Japan'. She was strongly influenced by French Impressionism, which in turn was inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e, thus she deemed the full cycle of "Japonisme". Embossed limited edition etching by Japanese artist Mayumi Oda (1941-present) titled "Treasure Ship on the Great Lake", #11/30. It is signed at the bottom in pencil. The treasure ship is usually depicted with the Seven Lucky Gods aboard it, however Mayumi believed only in goddesses and thus created her treasure ship collection depicting only females riding aboard it. Mayumi is known as the 'Matisse of Japan'...

Woodblock print by Japanese sōsaku-hanga artist Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled "Irozaki Morning". It shows the beautiful Cape Irozaki, done with soft pastels in the sky as the sun rises in the distance. Waves crash upon the rocks in the foreground, and three ships can be seen leaving port. It is signed and titled in pencil along the bottom, stamped in the corner, and also signed in kanji along the outer edge. Size: 11.25" height, 15" length

Wonderfully detailed shell open container, carved and pierced all around with twisting vines and branches bearing fruit, with carved rodent-like creatures that move loosely within the vegetation. There are areas of white in the creatures' eyes and the veins of the leaves. early 20th century Size: 2" height, 2.5" width

Small jade snuff bottle with pierced handles and a pierced orange jade stopper so as to be worn as a pendant. It has small carvings on either side below its handles and small areas of orange. Size: 1.5" height, .75" width

Beautiful carved white jade, with a small hole pierced through the top to be worn as a pendant. It has carved Chinese characters on either side within a raised oval border, etched spiral lines on its top and bottom, and serpent's heads along the jade's outer edges. Size: 1.5" height, 1.25" length, 1/8" width

An antique Chinese Lingbi stone (scholar's rock or spirit stone) has a very distinct ring when it is struck. Scholar's rocks are appreciated for their unusual shapes, asymmetry, color and texture. Scholars refer to them as "bones of the earth". It is a carved blackish stone overhang with perforations. It set upon a contemporary Shuozhou style carved rosewood base with 4 rounded feet.

Chinese painting using a calming combination of colors in soft black and grey, pink, and light blue. Two small birds resembling chickadees gaze upwards at pink morning glories with large, black leaves and dangling vines. A tiny red ladybug crawls along one of the flower stems. Signed by the artist. Size: 33" height, 16" width

Green jadeite ring with areas of beautiful deep green, set in an 18K yellow gold ring with incised lines that come to a triangular point. The inside of the band is inscribed with Chinese markings that have been partially worn away from use. 20th century Size: 2.25" length of entire ring, jadeite stone approx. .75" height, .5" width

Lovely Japanese Hira Taiko Drum, made from a light hardwood, and hung from a Hiratsuri stand. The drum has iron studding to keep its drum skins in place and gold kanji/kana on a black metal strip, with a gold taiko logo for Maru Masa. A drumstick is included which hangs off a hook from the Hiratsuri stand. Makes a lovely drum sound as it is intact and in good condition.
