A Chinese snuff bottle carved from green jade with relief decoration. One side showing a deer, the reverse with a peony. Both sides inscribed with gilt Chinese characters. The stopper is en suite, bone spoon. Condition: few traces of usage. Dimension: c. 5.6 cm high.

Elegant Chinese Jian hare's fur tenmoku chawan made during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Looking inside this Tenmoku chawan is like glazing deep into the cosmos. There one can understand the meaning of microcosm and ask whether one is looking inward or outward; probably both.

The pair of snuff bottles have a hexagonal faceted shape with flattened foot. They are inlaid with iridescent shell floral motifs with dark brown lacquer wood.

Laque burgauté has Chinese origins with examples occurring as early as the Ming dynasty and was especially popular in the Qing dynasty when it was also used to cover unglazed porcelain.

Since Satsuma printed porcelain have got a great reputation at Expo 1867 in Paris, Satsuma brand has been very popular in Europe.The specialization on making body and printing has been going on in early Meiji period, the bodies was made in Satsuma area Kagoshima pref.and was printed in Yokohama or Kyoto and so on. Antique Japanese ranma (transom). Carved from sugi wood on both sides with a scene of a twisting pine tree and stalks of bamboo. Framed in black lacquered hinoki wood. This architectural detail would have been built into a Japanese home usually over a door or window.
