It has one of the most beautiful Kintsugi repairs we have ever seen. A mixture of lacquer and gold powder showing a traditional Karakusa pattern. There is no comparable bowl - a real unicum.
The 'kara' of Karakusa means 'China', while 'kusa' means 'plant'...

A rare 17th Century (probably late Ming) carving of the Hehe Erxian - the Twin Immortals of Union and Harmony - in typical pose, one holding a basket and the other holding its 'contents' - a bat a symbol of happiness. Condition - good - there are natural cracks and flaws to the stone but no damages or losses...
17th Century Bhaisajyaguru Thangka. Antique Tibetan Thangka of the Medicine Buddha seated upon a lotus throne, holding the medicine bowl, and surrounded by Heavenly clouds and four Bodhisattva. Most of these thangka were photographed through glass frames, so there may be a little blurriness. This thankga was in an exhibition at the University of Texas Art Museum. Mineral pigments on silk. 16 x 12 inches, 40 x 30 cm.
Japanese russet lacquered leather zunari jingasa with riveted plating. Finely disguised as metal which is completely constructed of lightweight materials strengthened by lacquer. The interior helmet is lacquered in red. The front features a large gilt mon of the Ashikaga crest. The finial form takes shape of a chrysanthemum flower. Mounted on custom display stand.

A late Ming Wanli blue and white large bottle vase, rounded side with pear shape and glazed base, vase decorated with under glaze blue of galoping horse and flower motif divided with horizontal band, ruyi cloud motif on the neck.
Vase is in good condition with restoration on the upper part, rare to find similar vase in very large size.

A rare Momoyama Period Nezumi-Shino Chawan with a unique decoration: distorted cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of little reddish, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part.
The bowl was first covered inside and out with an iron oxide engobe (oni-ita) - then a decoration was incised into the dry engobe down to the clay - finally, a shino glaze was applied over the engobe...

A fine and large porcelain bowl with a brown glaze draining from the mouth and leaving the rim with an attractive white line showing off the foliate edge. Within the foot-rim can be found the six-character mark shen de tang bo gu zhi, which may be translated, 'Antique made for the Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue'. The clear glaze has a distinct pale blue-green tinge...
Chinese dignitary in cast bronze hot-gilded with mercury. Ming dynasty, 17th century or before. The hands and face are gilded, the rest of the figure was lacquered in several colors, traces of these pigments remain, notably red. The dress is incised with scrolls...
Wonderful pair of Ming Dynasty ceramic joss stick holders in the form of guardian lions in rich turquoise glaze on brown pedestals.
Measure 6 3/4" high, 5 3/4" wide, and 2 1/2" deep.
Figures are of buff colored clay, are hollow with hole in top for holding sticks.
The turquoise glaze is somewhat mottled over the surface, deeper in color in some areas, and having a greenish hue in other areas, while the raised areas show the color of the underlying clay...
A rare and early wooden Guanyin. Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Guanyin seated on a throne flanked by two birds. H. 54 cm. The back of the figure has a small cavity which contains a small silk parcel containing offerings.
Condition: age wear, old insect infestations, traces of repainting on the base.
Provenance: in my private collection since the mid 90’s, bought in Hongkong from Wing Kei Curios, Hollywood Road.
