Chawan, tea bowl to be used in the tea ceremony, of distorted oval shape (kutsu or clog, or shoe-shape). Thick cream-colored stoneware that turned red during firing in the unglazed area, covered with a translucent greenish ash glaze that collected in the bottom and around the rim and is very thin around the sides. The sides are ‘rough’, giving a look into the clay.

Large Antique African Tribal round bowl, hand carved from one piece of wood, with integral suspension loop and decorated with geometric design.

CONDITION: Signs of usage and wear, the wood with fine old natural dark patina, old cracks and chips, part of the side broken off, small white points and blotches from the wall paint.

A cigarette case made of iron, partially damascened in different golds and silver, inspired by the famous sculpture of the American artist James Earle Fraser (1876-1953) "End of the Trail", which he designed in the late 19th C. The interior with the Otojiro's mark with dragonfly. Condition: traces of usage, two tiny retouches, tiny scratches, elastic band tired, not perfectly closing, interior with left below corner slightly corroded (last photo). Dimension closed: c. 8.6 x 8.1 cm.

Carved hardwood box. The wood appears to be Huang-Hualy. The decoration is sculpted in relief with a peach tree in a stylized vase, the tree bears foliage and 5 peaches. The stylized vase is composed of a filiform dragon whose head can be seen from the front. The box opens with a lid pierced with 2 holes to receive a retaining wire, so you could open the lid by making it sink without losing it...

A small antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made of Kuri (Chestnut), Keyaki (Zelkova) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. All original bronze hardware including the Warabite handles. A pair of sliding doors and a lift-out door housed the tea accoutrements for serving guests. A built-in split level shelf was used to display seasonal ornaments or favorite small collectibles while 6 drawers of varying sizes provided additional areas for storage and organizing.

The Mishima tea bowl is a type of Goryeo tea bowl that was made in Gyeongsangnam-do in the 15th and early 16th centuries.

The sides are covered in bluish-grey and red burnt colors as if they were replaced, and you can feel the bitterness of the times.
