Kato Shuntai is a notable potter from Seto area, Aichi prefecture who lived in the late Edo period. He followed his father profession as a ceramist at the age of 15 and soon he received a name Shuntai from Tokugawa, the 11th Daimyo of modern Nagoya. Kato Shuntai expanded Seto ware techniques adding Shino, Oribe and Mugiwara styles to his works...

A rare, finely potted, small deep dish, well painted with "famille verte" enamels and decorated in scholar's taste with precious objects . This item was made in Jingdezhen, China circa 1700-1722 during the reign of the Kangxi emperor. For Kangxi mark and period dishes decorated in similar style please refer to Lot 2225 Nagel (Stuttgart) 10 Nov 2001. Condition - excellent - there is normal age related wear to the enamels but no damages and no restoration...

A curious set of sake cups decorated with auspicious leaping Carp, Koi, amongst water weeds with stylised waves with ao-dama, blue balls decorated with a repeating scale or imbricated wave pattern, seigaiha, painted in a limited palette of just iron red, gilt and underglaze cobalt blue. A beautiful 19th century late Qing flambe vase, the glaze of a deep mysterious "jun" red that is a deep crimson at the body and flares out to streaks of purple and blue near the mouth rim...

Karon kiln was located in northern Thai and produced mainly pieces pictured with iron glaze, and ended in a short term 15th century. This piece has star pattern and scrollwork with iron glaze. Size: 19.3cm(D) 4.9cm(H) Certification written by Shimazu Noriki the famous researcher for southern east Asia antiques.

This is a beautiful and unique cloisonne box. It has great workmanship and a beautiful rare deep purple ground color. It is not signed but was probably created by Hayashi or Kinuken. It is a little bigger than most boxes measuring 5 3/4 inches by 4 5/8 inches and 2 5/8 inches tall. Has a scratch on the underside shown in the images. This special box is from a spectacular Cloisonne collection and acquired almost 50 years ago.

Irwin Hersey was an advisor to museums and prominent collectors, and vetted pieces for many of the international tribal art fairs and Asian art fairs.

A very attractive Byzantine or darkage bronze chest key approx 6th.-9th. century AD.

The key is finely made with a round bow and square decoration to the hollow stem.

Size: 75 mm. long.

Condition: Extremely fine, superb with even green patina. A condition rarity as such.
