Jade carving of a bat spreading its wings on one side and on another side a coin shaped motif. Bats are considered to be an auspicious animal where the name is synonymous to fortune in Chinese. The coin contains a four character engraving possibly reading: Fu Shou Quan Shuang, or roughly translated as having both fortune and longevity. A white glazed, well potted Jar covered with a creamy white glaze. Southern Song Dynasty. The " counterpart " to the larger jar ( item # 1077671, Stock # 320 ) excavated at the same location at Central Sulawesi and also offered by us. Late Meiji Japanese Bizen pottery ware chaire (tea caddy for storing powdered green tea used in tea ceremony) with slender body and narrow mouth. Wonderful potting, beautiful patina, very nice texture and play of colors to the partial light glaze on its surface. Inscribed by the potter on the bottom. Turned bone cover lined with silver colored foil on the inside. Great piece in excellent condition. Height with cover 2 15/16 inches.
