A large Tembo tsuba. The Tembo (or Tenpo) style evolved from the Saotome school and the sukashi decoration of Okiagari here (an especially nice feature) carries over. Okiagari are self righting toys and the subject was a symbol of inspiration to Samurai in aspiring to improvement and the right path in life. There is, on a curious level of interest, some minute trace of old gold decoration (long since worn off) on the surface of this tsuba...

This is indigo dye thick of the Edo era cotton tsutsugaki noren. It is made of hand-spun and hand-woven and natural indigo dyed cotton. The neighboring brown can be dyed in persimmon juice. This is a northern Song dynasty green glazed bowl. It stands on a foot rim with a recess base exposing the light buff colour stoneware and then extending upwards with a C-shaped rounded body with a rounded rim like a lip. On the cavetto, it is incised with four bud of swirling flowers with lightly combed designed in between and the centre of the bowl.

The bowl is in good condition with the exception of minute abrasion and glaze fritting...

A beautifully shaped cloisonné enamel incense burner with roundels containing flowers or butterflies amidst spiral shaped wire ground. Gilt wires, rim and base. Condition: fine, partial little wear to gilding. Dimension: c. 12.3 cm high.

Simple wooden shishi (or lion) dance mask with movable ears and jaw. The ears and eyebrows are stained black. Behind the ears a row of small holes have been made, used for attaching the garment (the body of the lion). Mingei.

Late 18th to early 19th century Chinese bronze sculpture of Guandi holding a long halberd in one hand and stroking his beard with the other. Guandi is a legendary and supposedly a historical person, one of the Three Heroes of Han Dynasty, who was later raised to immortality and deified as God of War. Strong image with great thoughtful face, excellent casting, beautiful flow to the lines of his robe, wonderful chiseling of textile patterns...

Chinese miniature porcelain tea caddy with gold decoration. All the gold painting is intact and shows no wear which is pretty amazing. Dates mid to late 1700's, it is a fantastic little piece for the collector. In excellent condition, that is as originally made, the only imperfections are little pin pricks in the firing which is normal. This had a cork stopper which is inside the caddy. Measures 3" high x 2" wide x 1/2". Dates 2nd half 1700's.

A fine greek ritual figure of Cybele Playing Tympanum, Greek, c. 4th.-3rd. century BC.

She is standing in fine romes with the mural crown headdress and veiled, playing on a tympanum.

19th century staghorn Asakusa School netsuke carved as an old square coin on a coiled ribbon, which was traditionally used to hold coins together. Clever design, netsuke is essentially a wish for wealth, great quality carving. There are some natural lines in the material, but no cracks or repairs. Beautifully stained, superb mellow patina. Wonderful subtle piece in Japanese taste. Length 1 1/2 inches.

Chinese Qing dynasty Kangxi marked monochrome beehive form water coupe (taibo zun) covered overall in a copper red glaze. The slightly recessed flat base and interior are white. The base holds an apocryphal underglaze blue six-character Kangxi reign mark written in three columns. This type of water pot was used to refill a low flat brush washer. 5 1/8” diameter by 3 1/2” high. Guangxu period (late 19th century)...

Two very rare Ko-imari rice bowls from the Genroku period. C. 1690-1710. These are just gorgeous, the bottoms are painted in the chevron pattern, and various geometrical patterns of roundels with honey comb patterns throughout. Two dragons adorn either side of each cup and each surrounded with colors of iron red and green enamels with gold gilt accents. Each bowl and cover are in perfect condition with very little wear to the enamels, almost non-existant. They measure with lid on about 3 1/8" ...
