A rare 'Famille Noir' Chinese porcelain hat stand depicting five white four clawed dragons in flight over breaking waves amongst stylized clouds and flames on a black enamel background. The base carries an iron red seal mark of the the Tongzhi emperor (1862-1874) and was possibly made during his reign.

Condition: there are glaze losses to the enamels particularly on the vertical edges. There is a crack running from the rim to one of the ear cup shaped apertures...

This is one of a matched pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain temple jars in the Hawthorn pattern, having a domed lid with foo dog finial and lion mask handles. Condition: very good condition; 1 small chip on underside of rim. Measurement: 14" h.

The well-potted gourd-form vases are decorated with overglaze green, yellow, aubergine and red enamels, characteristic of 18th Century, but the paste appears to be consistent with the 19th Century. There are no chips or restorations, however, one of the vases has an old hairline extending from the mouth and is approximately three inches long. The other vase is undamaged. There are tiny areas of kiln grit on each vase and a bit of grit adhering to the footrings of each...

Kangxi period, 1700s / 1800s

The lid is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a depiction of Liu Bing, the founder of the Han Dynasty, attacking a snake, which was considered to be an omen predicting the founding of the Han Dynasty. This particular scene, probably from a woodblock printed book illustration, is seen from time to time on Shunzhi Period – early Kangxi transitional wares. This pair of late Qing Dynasty Famille Rose Mille Fleurs (thousand flowers) bowls with cover are 2 3/4 inches high (4 inches with cover) and 5 5/8 inches in diameter. Peony, chrysanthemum, lily, hibiscus, iris and several unknown flowers are painted over the entire exterior and the interior rim of both bowls and covers. There are Qian Long (1736~1795) honorable marks on the bottoms of the bowls and a single peony blossom on the center of the covers. The workmanship is elegant...

Chinese 19th Century Blue & White Porcelain Box with Inscription

This blue & white porcelain box was made during the late 19th century or possibly the early 20th century. It is heavily-potted and glazed, both inside and out, the glaze a little crackled in places. The outer surface is covered in a geometric/floral pattern in underglaze blue. Inside the box and the cover are characters etched into the glaze; we have not had these translated although we believe they are words of memorial...

Early 1800s

The entire surface is enameled and painted very skillfully with designs based on Indo-Buddhist mythology. These wares were made of fine porcelain, probably in Jingdezhen, and were exported to the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand) where they were primarily used by the king and his court. The enamels are of a famille rose type, thickly applied, and in the case of this fairly large bowl, very well-painted in the Siamese taste...

Ca. early 1800s

Glazed overall with a blue-tinged clear glaze with underglaze iron oxide coloring the peach and portions of the monkey. The base is unglazed. Molded with a large opening for brushes and two smaller apertures for holding flower stems. Very good condition, minor wear but no damage or repairs.
