From our Early Chinese Collection, a very rare, large, and striking Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) stoneware jar with lid, executed in a straw colored glaze over buff colored stoneware (or proto-porcelain as it is sometimes referred to, which is clay fired at higher temperatures than pottery but lower temperatures than true porcelain, which had yet to be invented at that time)...

Crackle porcelain covered by green celadon glaze to foot rim and decorated with big carved twin fishes on the center. Glazed base with reddish foot. MEASUREMENT : Diameter = 36.5 cm PERIOD : 12 th-14 th Century Longquan Kilns, Zhejiang CONDITION : restored to the broken parts.

Diameter approximately 12.5 cm. Bluish green color. There is a soft chip at the rim. In good condition.

Fine Small Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Celadon Glazed Porcelain Jar

This attractive small porcelain jar was made in the 12th - 14th century during the Song (AD 960 - 1279) or the Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368). It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a thick pale olive-green glaze. The body, when soft, was indented with five wide vertical impressions to give it a lobed appearance. The foot remains unglazed revealing the pale grey body...
