From our Japanese Collection, a fine and large eight-sided imari charger, Meiji Period 1868-1912, depicting a flower basket beautifully executed in traditional palette of iron red, orange, blue, and gilt on a white porcelain body, and as a lovely extra on this particular piece, the addition of Kakiemon-style greenish turquoise enamel highlights in the corners and tastefully interspersed throughout the design...

A very fine sometsuke dish of scalloped octalobed form painted with a mon form central motif of a symmetrically arranged pair of leaping carp. Framed by a continuous band of botan karakusa, Peonie lotus scroll, within which are reserves containing, dragons, Ryu, in clouds and a gilt rim, kin-beni. The reverse decorated with hagi-karakusa, vine pattern and a six character mark for the Chinese Emperor Jiajing. The quality of the painting is of the highest quality...

A very unusual dish decorated in somenishiki-de style with a fanciful landscape featuring a Namban figure, a Portuguese perhaps rather than a Dutchman, accompanied by a servant with parasol, walking to and from some sort of compound in the background with a curious barrel shaped tower. The well of the bowl and the exterior decorated in underglaze blue with a Shou symbol, Kotobuki, and three pussy foot Dragons to the exterior of the bowl...

A petal formed Kakiemon porcelain bowl 6.5" in diameter, 2.5" high on a footed rim. Enameled in iron red, green, blue and gold over blue underglaze are bijins and flowering trees. Ex-Christie's

Middle Edo Period Japanese Antique Ko-Imari Porcelain Cup with Dragon Painting made over 200 years ago. It was used for buckwheat (Soba-choko). Imari ware has been produced in Hizen area of Saga prefecture of Japan since 17th century. Size Width 2.8in ( 7cm ) Length 2.8in ( 7cm ) Height 2.3in ( 5.9cm ) Weight 3.53oz ( 100g) Condition Overall good. Used. There are few tiny cracks on the edge of bottom rim.

A fine Arita blue & white porcelain flower vase to be mounted on a wall, kakehana. 18th century.

The flower vase is heavily moulded with a leaping Chinese Lion or karashishi in a landscape of rocks and Tree Peonies, a classic subject in Japanese art known as “Botan-ni-Shishi”, an auspicious subject.

This old kakehana was manufactured in Arita in the mid Edo period, probably for the home market.

Approximately 16.7 cm high...

Here we see a Chinese style celadon floral bowl by one of the 5 Imperial Court Artists of Meiji. The potter, Sozan, spent his life perfecting techniques for celadon production first used in the Southern Song Dynasty as evidenced here with his powdery blue “kinuta” glaze...

Used for ceremonial purposes by the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties. Traditionally, the jue vessel was made of bronze with a pouring spout on either end and a pair of capped posts rising from the rim. This piece, although in the shape of a jue, is done in fine, powdery-blue celadon and is described on the tomobako as being a jue-shaped incense burner (korou).

A very large Chinese porcelain wucai enameled ewer or wine pot of compressed ovoid form with cover decorated with an overall brocade pattern composed of hexagonal cells each containing an enamelled four petal flower inset with two large reserves containing respectively Camelias and Rocks, and Flowering Plum and Rocks. The body of the ewer is comparatively thinly potted, and the handle and spout are simply luted to the body with slip. The ewer was made for the Japanese market...

Small porcelain ko-sometsuke plate made in China for the 17th century Japanese market. Blue and white design of three running rabbits. A bird, possibly a phoenix flies in the sky. Around the rim of the plate are four galloping horses. The underside of the plate is decorated with three thin blue rings and a simple dot pattern.
