This 18th century Japanese unsigned boxwood netsuke of FUKUROKUJU (in phallic shape) is 2 ¼ inches tall, 1 ½ inches wide and 1 ¼ inches in depth. It is in excellent condition.

Inro with 4 compartments in black lacquered wood. Decor of a mountain lake landscape executed in gold and silver powder. Mosaic details of small squares of gold. The worn parts reveal the red lacquer which was used to execute the reliefs. Japanese work from the 18th century or before. No signing. Good general condition for a tercentenary lacquer. Multiple small damages all visible on photos. No repainted areas, no restoration. Quality lacquer, solid. 82x52mm.

Surely an extraordinary confluence of circumstances must have come into alignment in order to bring this remarkable composition into existence. Done in the Korai style - referring to the heavy influence from Korean forms and glazing - this exquisite late Momoyama/early Edo period (1590-1620) Karatsu-ware tea bowl is really rare.

This old Japanese hook would have been suspended over the hearth and used to hang cooking pots over the fire. Obviously used by a rural farm family, this pothook or jizai kagi would have been hung by a rope above the fireplace, and the hook has been "firepolished" from years of use.

19th century Japanese iron mae-kanagu (tobacco pouch clasp fitting) depicting a sparrow serving sake from a bottle to an old man with a sake cup. The topic represented is Shitakiri Suzume, or the story of a tongue cut sparrow - see H. Joly LEGEND IN JAPANESE ART, p. 496. Iron is notoriously difficult to work with. Excellent design, superb crisp detailing, silver inlays and gilding. Length 1 7/16 inches.

Japanese antique wonderful set of six puppet figures, known as oshi-e ningyo. The set includes a beautiful maiden, a samurai, a female attendant, a male official, Ebisu and Daikoku, figures are made of very thinly shaved layers of wood and paper with silk clothing and painted details, each figure is held by a stick and fitted with a stand (made later), the oshi-e ningyo were often made by households in Northeastern Japan and were made to celebrate girls day or as a prayer for happiness...

This is a Late 18th Century, most likely Osaka School, excellently carved netsuke of a resting stag, head turned back, eyes inlaid in black horn, with a dapple cloth, and good hair work. Unsigned. It measures 2.05 inches (5.2cm) wide, and 0.83 inches (2.1cm) tall.

Made of Keyaki (Zelkova) burl and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. 4 side by side drawers with a pair of sliding doors covering a spacious storage area. An antique bronze Inoshishi (white-moustached pig) made by Hobundo. It features prominently in Japanese culture, where it is widely seen as a fearsome and reckless animal,Among Japanese hunters, the boar's courage and defiance is a source of admiration, and hunters and mountain people not uncommonly name their sons after the animal. The underside of the pig has a maker's mark.

19th century Japanese Asakusa school staghorn kiseruzutsu - tobacco pipe case - carved with a mountainous landscape and figures of Kanzan reading an open scroll and Jittoku leaning on his broom. According to a legend, Kanzan and Jittoku lived in a kitchen of a Chinese Zen Buddhist monastery and talked nonsensical language, which some took as a sign of them being enlightened. Very clever carving incorporating outer texture of the antler and porous nature of its center as elements of design...

Cotton han-juban (short under kimono) with katazome (stencil resist dye), whose motif is a kind of "Seigaiha", the traditional wave pattern. It is hand spun cotton and vegetable indigo dye. This is a beautiful and rare original antique Japanese Polychrome Woodblock Print "Itsutomi" Ukiyo-e by Utagawa Toyokumi dated 1793 or 1795, Edo Period, depicting a beautifully dressed and elegant Lady with her Shamisen instrument on the floor. Calligraphy markings/seal. Overall in very good condition with very small inconsequential tear on the outside (right frame, see photo). Size: 15.5" x 10.25" (39.5 cm. x 26.5 cm). This Woodblock has now been framed under glass.
