A spending antique Chinese Kwan Yin sculpture made in the late Ming Dynasty. Kwan Yin or Guanyin and Avalokiteshvara is the Bodhisattva of compassion. Here she stands samabhanga on a simple base with robes flowing and clinging naturally over and to her long, slender body. Her feet peek from beneath her robes.

Her hands are held with her thumb and middle finger touching in the vitarka mudra of teaching. Her hair is piled high on her head. Her gaze serene and slightly downcast...

A lidded container in a divided, compressed form of finely, carved bamboo root. Good luck bringing Bats (bianfu) carved in relief decorate the sides and lid. Bottom with a la grec pattern. Mid Qing, around 1800. H 10 cm, W 8.2 cm. Condition: Very good. Traces of wear. One short crack on the middle part of the bottom panel filled.

Very unusual late 19th century Japanese lacquer small table screen decorated on both sides with tsuba (Japanese sword guards). Excellent clever work with different lacquer colors and textures imitating rusting iron and cleaner silvery surfaces of different tsuba. Beautiful carved textured surface of the rest of the screen with lower layer of red lacquer and upper layer of tan colored one. Wonderful patina, in excellent condition. DESCRIPTION: A large wooden scholar’s brush used to paint large calligraphy. Thick black bristles are gathered into a bulbous wood ferrule, turned from the same wood as the handle.
