This molded Chinese Qing Dynasty Jia Qing Period (1796~1820) export blue and white vase is 7 1/8” high, 3 ½” on the widest part and 2 ½” thick. It depicts an open mouthed dragon fish jumping out of the water. According to Chinese legend, if a fish (carp) can jump over the “Dragon Gate” in the Yellow River, it will turn into a dragon. This is a Chinese Export blue and white Canton pattern porcelain pot de creme with cover, circa 1810-1820, having an entwined-strap handle decorated with gilt on blue floral terminals. A storehouse (kura) lantern(andon) from late 19th century Japan, made of wooden base, and metal wire body, and hanging hook. Interior paper is a later addition. I have found a long Japanese medicine bottle that fits perfectly inside the lantern, making it suitable for flower arranging.
