This is a carved portrait of Christ in gem quality emerald from Colombia. It has been specific gravity tested. It originated from the Chivor mining area in Colombia which produced higher grade specimens than the Muzo or Coscuez areas. It dates to around the middle 1600's and shows no evidence of modern tool marks. It is 233.24 carats. It is 1 1/2" tall, 1/1/4" wide and 1" deep. The patina is beautiful. An antique Japanese gilt wood temple Ranma (transom). Hand carved depicting a pair of Kingfisher with 3 Swallows amongst Lotus blossoms and leaves. One Swallow has caught a small fish while one Kingfisher has caught the leg of a frog. Deep relief with inscription on left and partial inscription on right.

A rare antique Chinese Longquan, celadon glazed charger dating from the Ming Dynasty 15th Century. Thickly molded with a raised edge to the rim flange and a band of recessed petals tapering inward along the cavetto toward a peony flower roundel impressed to the center of the well. A large and very beautiful 18th Century Shan State Brass Buddha subduing Mara. This type of Buddha was mostly made of wood, lacquer and papier maché, brass is indeed very seldomly found, thus rare. Probably Ming dynasty or earlier. Artist unknown. Ink and color on paper, no mounting or framing. The painting depicts a scholar resting under a tree and five oxen by the river. The painting has a long rip next to the black ox, and a noticeable damage at the bottom of the paper. Please see pictures for more details.

The artist has represented a standing character, leaning on a broom, with a blissful and amused expression on his face turned towards the sky. This is probably Shih Te, a mischievous young Chinese monk who, according to legend, lived in the Kwo-Ching-Su temple in China during the Tang period around the 9th century. A simple, four lobed armorer's tsuba with simple pierced decoration perhaps depicting a landscape with structure. The udenuki-ana (cord holes) have the effect of completing the illusion of a Sesshu-like landscape. The saotome were armorers turned tsuba makers who worked in this manner and scale.
