Surely an extraordinary confluence of circumstances must have come into alignment in order to bring this remarkable composition into existence. Done in the Korai style - referring to the heavy influence from Korean forms and glazing - this exquisite late Momoyama/early Edo period (1590-1620) Karatsu-ware tea bowl is really rare.

This is a unicum! We like to offer you one of the highlights of our collection. A very fine and aesthetically pleasing Karatsu Tea Bowl from the early stage of the Edo Period (1603-1868).

It has one of the most beautiful Kintsugi repairs we have ever seen. A mixture of lacquer and gold powder showing a traditional Karakusa pattern. There is no comparable bowl - a real unicum.

The 'kara' of Karakusa means 'China', while 'kusa' means 'plant'...

Distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata)tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay.

Shape and style (note the trimmed walls and the flaring mouth) make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical white, feldspatic Shino glaze which has been poured and under which a decoration of four cedar trees and grass on the reverse side have been applied in iron oxid (oni ita)...

Little distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical green copper oxide glaze inside and outside. A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed for decoration in iron oxide engobe under a clear ash glaze in a pattern squares and triangles. This is a typical late Momoyama design...

Currently awaiting an uncertain succession to the 14th generation, this preeminent line of craftsmen has been a cornerstone of Hagi pottery for over 400 years. Here we see an historically important work by the second generation potter dated to the Japanese Era “Kanbun” (1661-1671)—placing it as a very mature work, completed near or at the very end of the life of this craftsman...

Decorated with a very nice Coastal Landscape with Pagoda. The decoration executed in a rich Kobalt blue. Ming Dynasty, Jiajing period ( 1522 - 1566 ) Diameter : 19,2 cm. Condition : Perfect.

Famille Verte plate decorated in the centre with a bird perched on a flowering magnolia branch. Kangxi C1700. Dia. 21.3cm. Condition; some fritting to the rim. No cracks, chips or restoration.

This lovely Hagi chawan rests firmly on a wari kodai or “split foot” that shows the iron-rich clay this antique piece is fashioned from. The milky glaze varies in consistency across the curves and contours of the bowl with areas tending towards pale ash, ivory, and faint lavender...

Rare and beautiful antique Chinese scholar's box, made of huanghuali hard wood with gorgeous grain, hinged top lid opens to shallow compartment for writing implements, two doors open to reveal 6 small drawers, beautiful details throughout, 17th century. Size: 12 3/4" high x 13 1/2" wide x 9 1/2" deep.

A 16th century Ming Longquan celadon charger plate, heavily potted and covered with a crackled translucent pea-green glaze with a subtle bluish undertone...

A spectacular collapsed pottery jar from the Karatsu tradition with a purpose-warped wooden lid covered in powdered silver enclosed in a top quality ancient red-lacquered kiri-wood box lined with wave-patterned colored-paper. The ancient box has silver lacquer writing on the top reading Kodai Karatsu Tsubo, Kamakura Ki, Mizusashi (Ancient Karatsu Tsubo, Kamakura Period, Mizusashi). The pot is 17 cm (7 inches) diameter, 15 cm (6 inches) tall and in overall excellent condition.

A large blue and white bowl from the Ming Jiajing period. Jingdezhen ware, 1522 - 1566 Diameter : 20,1 cm. H : 9,1 cm. Condition : cracked and a small restored chip to the base.

A large Japanese Ko-Tamba (Tanba) Vase/Tsubo decorated with a splashed and dripped deep-green glaze pooling towards the foot on a dark-brownish body.

It was made in the Momoyama Period 16th century or earlier. This impressive vase is a wonderful example of a so called Shiji-ko vase, which means 'vase with four ears'.

Great antique condition.

Tanbayaki has been produced in the village of Tachikui, Hyogo pref. for over 800 years...

Diameter approximately 32 cm. There are some hairlines. There is no repair.
